Any getbiggers in Las Vegas or Phoenix
« on: April 28, 2018, 10:30:27 PM »
What is quality of life like there? I like that in both places houses are way cheaper than where I’m at.

How is it as far as jobs, outdoor recreation, dating scene, traffic etc. I know wiggs recently left Vegas so there must be something he didn’t like about it.

Thanks taco. Are there any trees? I ask because I love camping but don’t want to camp under the hot sun 24/7.

You make Phoenix sound great, need to visit soon!

phx rocks for camping

live in the northern part of phoenix so you are to close to camping. 1 hour drive and AZ looks more like Colorado than AZ.

if you are an outdoors type you love phoenix, just live on the very north end of the valley? why? closer to elevation = better camping/hiking

if you head west (to LA) its all desert, head south to Tuscon - all desert - head east, its desert but not as bad.

so live northern part (best part anyways) then you are a quick drive to amazing scenary, lakes

Saint Helens Oregon?

Idaho no, Montana I hear is great for outdoor activities, would certainly visit. As far as climate I just want dry and warm.

CALF, I think that TRES would agree that Las Vegas is completely different than Arizona.

I live here in LV and I think I saw a tree once or twice and you'd have to be a complete retard to do any camping within the surrounding area for at least 360 days of any given year.

But camping here is too damn hot for kids!

But we got a lake and if you get here before it completely dries up ... you can enjoy a fun and full day of water skiing  and get the best sun burn you'l ever have within an hour or two.

But don't take your kids! Even on that lake ... it's too damn hot!

And we got a mountain that you can ski on .... less than one hour in the north-west direction ... providing you can manuver through the parked cars that jam the little two lane road  that will eventually end at the Mt. Snow parking lot ... which you will sadly discover that there ain't no more space to fit your car ... so it's back down the hill for a mile or two  to join those other cars parked along the side of that littlr, two lane, mountain road.

But don't take your kids! A hike of a mile or two up that mountain road is too much of a hike for little legs.

But we got tons of shit in this townwhen the sun goes down and the kids are sound asleep.

But all that fun shit, for some unknown reason, starts around 11 PM .... whereas I start as soon as the sun goes down and seldom manage to be alert enough to see what happens after 10 when everyone else in this town is reving up to have the time of their life or stir up trouble  for what could eventually be the next 36 hours.

You'd have to ask TRES about  all that shit! I'm sure he's seen it all.  My eys get shut too damn early!

To be perfectly honest with ya .... this place is the place to have a good time if you have the cash to have a good time and an inclination to raise a bit of hell  and pay the penalty within the next couple of dozen hours or so.

I gotta end this by saying .... I'm nowhere near  being an alcoholic but I have drunk my fair share of LV booz, but during my lifetime ... I honestly believe that I've only purchased less than a dozen shots of the devil's brew. All those drinks i've ever drunk have been down the hatch with the house's compliments!

So if you have any sort of drinking problem, stay on the ski slope or on our disappearing lake and far away from the wild pary life after 11  PM.

Or take those kids and settle down in or near Sedona, Arizona and enjoy a simple but beautiful lifestyle!

That, my friend, is a Paradise in a desert.

Yes Portland area so about hour and a half from the coast.

Problem is that is a beautiful picture but it is not the typical day. The summers here are amazing, if it was summer year round I would never think of leaving. Nice weathe only lasts about 12 weeks rest of the time it’s cloudy cold and raining. I absolute hate rain.

Vegas is cheap and easy to live. Area is ugly, no trees, all strip malls, no small local business all fast food. Great gyms everywhere. Dating was impossible unless you work in the industry. But if you make ok money you can live well. It’s a transient town, people don’t last longer than 3months

Thinking of taking Vegas off the list. I love visiting Vegas but it sounds like maybe not the best place to live. Plus if I live there then visiting the strip completely loses its appeal.

@ Tres taco, what are the casinos like in Phoenix? I’m not a huge casino guy but enjoy the occasional visit.

@ stuntmovie I like about an hour from some of the best skiing in the world on Mt. Hood but have never gone and not interested in skiing.

I guess mostly true if you live by the strip, but there is a hell of a lot more to Vegas beyond the strip.

Vegas here, its a great town but it’s definitely not for everyone. Very cheap to live, tons of outdoor activities, the gyms and anything health or fitness related is top notch. Yoga, super gyms, smaller gyms, healthy food options and healthy grocery stores all over. Several places to get meat at specialty shops, etc.

Food and restaurants are among the best in the entire country. And there are tons of local businesss and restaurants. Of course there fast food everywhere, but where isn’t it like that in the US. Local restaurants all over that are amazing.

The strip very quickly loses its appeal if you live here. You’ll only got there when friends or family visit. Hiking and biking everywhere and it’s so easy to fly or drive anywhere if you want to travel

I don’t have kids and don’t want them. Most of my friends are same way. But we all work in the industry and work nights.

Come to Vegas and stay off the strip and rent car and go exploring, you’ll be surprised at what you find and how far your dollar will go.

I lived in Vegas for a year, it was a great experience but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for when after all was said and done. I worked as a bartender, it was fun as fuck, tons of hot chicks and super exciting when I first started, but after a while you see the fakeness, majority of the chicks had fake tits, lips, hair, and what not, tons of drugs, and in general sketchy characters everywhere, but thats in the nightclub scene. If you live in Summerlin it's cool, I would go hiking at Red Rock all the time that was amazing, the gyms were great too, I used to see Cutler at Golds a lot as well as Gustavo when he was placing high in the Olympia. The upside is theres always action, tons of concerts, comedians, expo's, even just going to a casino is a fun experience can't help but feel the excitement when you go to a fun casino. Lot's of great restaurants, just depends on what you're into and what you're looking for, but real estate is cheap there and can find some really nice places.

I've been to Scottsdale twice and actually would move there if I didn't have roots where I am. I'd be an outdoorsie person if I lived there. Great hiking trails and super good food scene. Man, I'm itching to go back. Let me check my Delta app...

I'm in total agreement with Go4 and SWAY's comments found above, but since I knew Vegas when the 'BOYZ' ran this place ... here are a few chages that have brought my "liking Vegas" down a notch or two ....

Today you gotta pay to park in each of the Strip casinos ..... unless you can get a  free 'Vet Parking Pass'. And if you don't have that 'pass' it's gonna cost a minimum of $12 or more.

Now-a-days the Strip casinos 'cheat' by paying you 6 to 5 if you get a Blacjack instead of the traditional 3 to 2 payback.

That basically means that those Strip casinos win everytime YOU get a Blackjack. They keep part of the winnigs that YOU deserve!

Most of the young crowd playing in those casinos today have no idea why they leave those tables with less cash than when they came in.

In the good old days ... minimum BJ bets were $1 and the $1 "chips" were large silver coins. Now-a-days the minimum is $10 in the  form of 'plastic' chips.

Which means that you'll just lose your money faster  and make room for another sucker.

Back in the day ....Drinks were totally comp't by the casinos but in some of the Strip casinos tody, drinks are not comp't at all until you 'rack-up'  a pre-determined number of points on your player's club card.

And unlee you request a straight shot, it's going to take a good number of thosse mixed cocktails to et the slightest buzz.

Buffets were about $6 back then and they now start around $14 ... which still ain't too bad if you are a big eater.

In most casinos  but not all ... lounge acts are a thing of the past.

High end night-clubs charge a $40 entry fee and roughly $14+ for a cocktail ... or get bottle service starting at $800 a pop. A $2,000 night-club expeniture is not uncommon in this town.

In them good old days, the casino owners wouldmeet &  greet you on the casino floor and pass out rolls of nickles to all the slot patrons and even accept a million dollar wager if that million was your first bet.

All those old guys are dead today and the casinos are million dollar corporations with no representation on the casino floor. (My first bet  was always a buck or two but I was always treated like an important high roller.)

Today those guys upstairs should get off their asses and do some "meet and greet'n" with a hearty handshake and an old time "Howdy - DOO!"

And get the bums on all those streets into Rehab. They all ask for a buck or two because, "I ran out of gas!".

I only provide a buck or two to the honest ones wo say, "I ran out of alcohol."

Bring back the "BOYZ" and follow the welcoming style  of the original casino owners such as Mr. Binion nd Mr. Boyd.

That is the only way to get this town back on its feet even if it includes an increase in the number of holes in the desert outside of town!
