Cadillac ATS or Other New Luxury Sedans, Opinions
« on: May 12, 2018, 04:46:57 PM »
I have been researching new cars. Most likely going to pick up a Cadillac ATS Luxury AWD. Can pick one of these up for less than a well equipped Camry or Accord.

Sedans are being heavily discounted right now with the popularity of SUV's. 2018 VW Passat starts under 15k for a decent mid size car with huge back seat.

Farewell to the ATS after this year, caddy will stop making it, not that I’ll miss it

Same here. Had one for a rental for a few days and liked it. Prices seem good, although it has been out since '13 with a small refresh in '15-'16.

Nope, a car that’s about to be discontinued, a brand that’s struggling, build quality is shitty, American cars are dead compared to the comp

Infiniti and Lexus are much better than American luxury

Hell save your money and buy a Kia stinger, that’s a great car

The Cadillac handles very well. Does lag behind some other in the tech stuff IMO.

I regret not buying a G37 in 2013.

lexus IS is a great ca - if you can get it with a stick - do that -

i am only into 1 type of car (mustangs) my roush stage 2 is my baby -

i loved the IS300s from the early 2000s. i went with acura RSX-S over the is300s... a bit cheaper and it was a coupe

god damn the is300 were neat (got rice)  ;D

Kind of the plan. 2016 is the oldest I would buy due to the 8 speed trans update.

German cars look nice, but long term maintenance and repair cost is a concern.

For Volkswagen, always get the GTI Golf...They are a blast to drive.  I drove a 2003 GTI with a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder for 250,000 miles...the transmission was a six speed that just "snicked" when you shifted gears.

My brother in law has the 2.0T AWD model, it’s quick but he says my WRX definitely feels a lot quicker. But it’s not much at all in actual relativity.

Discounts on the ATS, as the sedan will be discontinued, and coupe eventually. Will be replaced with a "tweener" car. Terrible dash compared to its competitors. Great handling. Automatic has issues. Reliability, will cost you less than the Germans.
Styling wise, blah backend.

Hyundai has developed the Genesis luxury line. Pound for Pound it hangs with its much pricier competition. G90 looks pretty sharp but it's all a matter of personal taste

Consumer Reports loves the GTI and Golf. Sounds like a fun car.

WRX is quicker. Subaru delivers a lot for a fair price.

Genesis has top customer satisfaction. The company has come a long way and are adding 100 dealerships. Watched a video on the G70 I think. Sharp car on same platform as the Stinger.

also call buying is cultural - personal choice

me - i am east german/czech area decent and shocking i owned a big body 740i (stereotype and m3)

if you like the image of a caddy get one. its iconic man - fucking classic - it might fit who you are as a person?

coming from a former car salesman. buying a car runs brand deep/cultural.

end of the day - the besic nice luxo sedan, they are all the same. really they are - nice and great cars - but also go with your image you wish to protray

audi - screams boring dentist type

if you are Italian and dont buy the caddy i will make sure the guidos vote you out of the race  8)

This.

The news of ATS being discontinued is brand new and certain to crush already heavily discounted from MSRP fair market value of this model.

It is a shame.  Everybody bitched about “why doesn’t US build 4 door M5 fighter “....and Cadillac did with CTS-V.....and nobody bought it or paid attention.

Cadillac has right idea but needs to break off from sharing space with Chevy dealerships.  Stand alone stores and improved vehicle interiors w/less Alcantra would be a good start too.  Reduce Cadillac franchised dealers by 25% or more and try to move brand upmarket over next five years.  Focus on improving interiors...especially gauges and infotainment.

Needs more differentiation from GM.

Hyundai will screw its Genesis brand. They are going to sell the cars in the Hyundai dealership instead of creating a Genesis brand dealership network, like Toyota did with Lexus, Honda with Acura, and Nissan with Infiniti. Selling a luxury brand in house with your more plebeian wares is brand suicide. My guess is that the fact that Hyundai is losing money due to poor sales, maybe the reason why they will not invest money into a Genesis dealer network. And the fact that Hyundai dealerships had complained about not being selected as future Genesis dealerships (IIRC).

This is part of the same issue that Caddy has, as they tend to not be stand alone dealerships, but always hooked up to some non-luxury brand.

All that is above my head. They may want to get some footing before venturing off into new dealerships for their new models... you could be right but it could just be a sound business decision

Another idea is for GM to sh*tcan Cadillac brand, break off Escalade into a “sub brand” with premium products and continue to sell “Escalade” branded XT5, XT4 + current Escalade and variants.  This would mean killing the CT6 and CTS which would be a shame.

It is easier to sell high dollar crossover/suv lineup at average franchised dealer vs being a stand alone luxury brand store with the product to back up premium $$$.

Agree with all of this.

A luxury brand must have stand alone franchise.  Hyundai is pissing off its US dealer network.  They are guaranteeing failure if they try to sell Genesis brand in Hyundai stores.  The Koreans already struggle for parity with Japanese in public perception.  Only one Japanese brand is truly a contender in luxury market and that took 20+ years.

Hyundai you’re doing it wrong.
