What does someone do when $20,000 a month isn't enough to live on?

Theres people that live there for as cheap as $3,000-$4000 a year, it might not be a super glamorous way of life but it can be done, I dated a girl there her apartment cost $75 a month, I know travelers that stay at hostels for $5 a day, food is also very cheap depending on your budget and how hungry you are, but you can get by eating with $3 a day. Not saying you'll be living it up, but it all depends on your taste and how you want to live your life.

This is somewhat different or more restrictive than what I've read. I read that he can collect the earnings on the 4.5 mil she left him. Conservative expected earnings on that large of an investment are around 5%. This comes out to a little less than $19,000 a month. I don't know about you, but $19,000 a month seems like a fair amount of money. I'd be happy to have that much monthly income. Of course, I don't use drugs, so the money would go much further.

Don't know if 50k would be or not...depends on one's lifestyle. My pre-tax income is a little more than 75k. I live modestly in a suburb of Portland, OR.  My home cost a third of what a comparable place would in L.A. Property taxes are higher in Oregon than they are in CA sine we don't have the benefit of prop 13. Mine are currently $6,000 a year. My guess is most everything else, such as food and clothing run about the same in both states.

If you are a big traveler / backpacking type, you can stay in hostels there for $5 a day, and if you are adventerous you can meet tons of like minded people there that are all about traveling and exploring Thailand. Food again it's on you, you can buy 60 eggs for like $2 and I know for a fact Terminal 21 has an awesome food court that has grilled chicken double portions with rice for 90 baht ($3). It depends on your habits, lifestyle, and things that you enjoy doing, Bangkok will definitely be more expensive then Phuket (at least for me it was) there I stayed almost 9 weeks and spent $1500, but I wasn't going to black tie events, I went to the gym in the morning, went to the beach all day, at the beach I would bring 1 scoop of whey with me, I would buy a coconut for 30 baht, put the whey with the coconut water drink that, eat the coconut meat, swim and relax all day, buy some mango, pineapple, banana have that for lunch, go back to my condo take a nap, go out for the night, buy some spicy basil chicken with a fried egg for 90 baht, hit a bar and drink a few Singha beers again are like 30-60 baht a beer. That was a typical day for me when I was in Phuket, my daily expenditures were between $5-10 a day. This is exactly how I want to live my life when I retire there.

Tons of guys from England living out there, but I'm sure your wife would absolutely hate it and I can pretty much guarantee you will be divorced within 6 months. Obviously, I'm not a local in either of these places. If I were, staying in my 'village' doesn't sound like much fun. Imagine Las Vegas without the night life...boring, too hot and nothing to see. What's funny is that I'm not too hot on crowds of people e.g. you find on cruise ships.
