Been living in HK 7 years.

People are not the friendliest or best looking.

Cheap roids and HGH though ;)

Should be cheap being right next to China. Buy from pharmacy or underground?

Brush up on your history, Hong Kong was ruled by Britain for over 100 years before 1997, lots of foreigners are brits that speak Cantonese there  ;)

Exactly! This is what makes HK so special and why HK people are for more civilized than some of their neighbors in China. Having said that, more and more Chinese will clearly move into HK over time.

From an investment perspective HK is fantastic. Zero capital gains tax on property!

Sorry wrong link, it should be: https://parkislandhongkong.blogspot.com/2018/03/park-island-apartments-high-record.html

Seems like a good place to be investing IMO.

You Germans did bring good beer brewing techniques to China though, so that's a positive :)

To be frank HK Chinese are not that civilised. This is a myth. Everyday I see them picking their nose in public, not holding the door for people behind them, not saying thank you to people who hold the door open for them, eating with their mouths open and making ridiculously loud noises when they eat oblivious to people around them etc. I could go on and on

The loud slurping thing is pretty much universal for Asian cultures. It helps dissipate the heat and disperses the flavour (much like how a wine-tastes assesses wine).

HK is a melting pot of cultures. From highly sophisticated westerners and westernised Chinese, to very uncivilised old Chinese men and migrants.

We could also point to the very uncivilised conduct of a significant % of Americans fighting and shooting each other too couldn’t we ...

Yes this is a good point. However, I think since you have last been here the percentage of these "sophisticated" people have dropped significantly. Increase in Mainlanders residing in HK and the local population becoming more and more like Mainlanders have led to this. Most of my friends in HK feel the same way and the exodus amongst those with foreign passports is quite high. Only reason to stay in HK is for work and business opportunities...as aforementioned tax here is minimal so if you can hustle you can really make good $$.

Yeah I agree it will change as the more of mainlanders move in to HK. But all the expats I know love it living there. Seems still huge money to be made there in property due to the naturally limited supply. And also in the stocks market it’s kind of like the New York of Asia or the London of Europe.

A close friend went to Hong Kong for business just a few months ago. At the hotel there were a ton of Russian girls, 6 to a room. They vacation there when they can. Some were training in the gym with great intensity. My friend had several nights of fun with a few of them. Russian girls, very liberal especially on vacation.

GIB, I hope you don't mind if I add some Hong Kong photos here. Hong Kong is one of the most interestung cities I've had the opportunity to visit, but that visit was long ago .... so it all most lokely has changed by now as already mentioned above.

Here is a photo of the tram that takes passenges to Victoria Peak. It was built in 1888 and is still in operation today.

Victoria Peak is an interesting story in itself which I'll mention briefly if there is any interest.
