how come all of you are so sick? both in body and mind?
« on: July 02, 2018, 11:00:58 AM »
every other thread is about your declining health. surgeries, painkillers, pillpopping, alcohol, drugs, food allergies, sleeping problems, relationships problems, financial problems, mental problems, porn addiction it just goes and on and on and on?

how did you end up failing so miserably at life?

is this one of those 'if you cant be a role model be a bad example to the world' kinda things?

are you doing anything, that's ANYTHING right?

I gotta be honest the place is an eye opener,  as well as other various bodybuilding platforms. Its really swayed me into more of a health/fitness approach.

Some of us (quite many i believe) are 40~50+.

We've been through quite a lot in life.

Declining health and injuries comes with age and experiences.

If the majority was in their 20s - 30s it would sound different i am sure.

Pellius and Wes have destroyed parts of their bodies through whatever they were doing over the years. It isn't as if they are dopes. So it is a warning to others to not do some extreme things in life. Pellius persisted in doing his martial arts fighting training for decades. Now he is paying the price. Not sure what happened to Wes.

If we look at some former champion bodybuilders we see similar things. Zane, Franco, Arnold, the Mentzers, Louis, Dickerson, Sergio and many others are somewhat frail now or who ended up as shadows of their former selves. Who would have thought that musclemen would end up crippled or weak? Maybe having super motivation contributes to destroying the body?

Except for tearing a biceps doing a stupid deadlift with 509 pounds I am okay. Over the decades I kept training but never flat out or that consistently. Hypertrophy training has always been part of my life and I think the benefits outweigh any harm. I mostly just train arms now. Of course I am totally natural and never use drugs or supplements. I eat what I like. Oh, I forgot, I don't do bench presses because of tenderness in my left shoulder. I have to be careful to warm up my triceps because of the elbows. Once warm I can go flat out and heavy.

I have always hated cardio. Nowadays I take my camera and lenses and do hikes. Sometimes I go up mountains by myself. I carry about 40 pounds of equipment and it can be exhausting. I rest when I need to but it keeps my legs strong. My calves are still 17 1/2. Arms are close to 18 inches. Last month I exceeded my former maximum in the lying triceps extension by doing over 10 reps with 12 plates on the modified Nautilus Triceps machine. So progress is possible even at 75. I can't seem to find the motivation to train every 3rd day. So I am now just maintaining my arm size. I honestly think my triceps are the largest they have ever been.

That is a mistake. Keep part of your body growing. It is the fountain of youth. Drugs and many popular exercises are not healthy nor recommended.

If your main concernin life is not getting hurt then I think you can probably go well into your 70s pain free before old age takes it's toll. But if you want to do things in life, challenge yourself, take yourself to and beyond your limits, experience the high and exhilaration that gives some zest to life then of course there are going to be some risks and a price to pay. It's the old lion and sheep analogy. Depends on how a person is born. What makes one content to sit and lounge, avoid any discomfort or chance of pain, and always remain physically comfortable as much as possible. Then there are those that want to lay a 800 lb bar and squat down for as many reps as they can until they are on the verge of having it collapse on them. I don't know what makes people so different and what motivates them. I don't why I've always had, since I was a little kid, this desire to be involved in contact sports. I just loved getting into fights when I was a kid and although I was never a punk I never let an opportunity to mix it up go by. Whether I won or got the crap beat out of me I've always gotten such a feeling of exhilaration while in the mix of fighting my heart out. It seems that the closer I felt to death the more alive I felt.

So you get people that destroy their bodies playing football, boxing, MMA, powerful lifting.... really all endeavors that require physical exertion, and then you have the rest of use that just watch them and with many living vicarious through them wishing the had the physical gifts, guts, desire and discipline to be there themselves.

How many $$$ do you suppose a fellow could pull in preforming naked in a 2.5 hour webcam show, featuring a sound activated OhMiBod up his butthole? My guess is at least enough to get the transmission fixed on their car and put their bank account back in the black.  ;)

Oops, I thought keeping one's testosterone levels in check has been shown to improve one's health. I believe it was the Japanese who discovered the benefits of resistance training to forestall the advance of arthritis. Being a mountain of muscle has never been and will never be healthy. It simply makes one's organs work harder and like with machines, we wear out sooner.

No, this is not correct. We are not machines but living organisms. We can do things that help us ward off the ageing process. We can generate growth in our muscles at any age. Well, I haven't seen a decrease doing arm training.

Everyone has something “wrong” with them or their lives, stop believing the consumerism perfect life American dream bullshit. Life is a learning experience. I.E. if I didn’t ego lift heavy all the time, I wouldn’t have a bad back, that stopped me from squatting heavy now.

Robby Robinson has been bodybuilding his whole life. He has, and continues, to use anabolics to promote muscle building, yet he, and ALL those like him, continue to lose muscle as they age. A tape measure in not an accurate measurement of muscle gain or loss. You can have two people with the exact same arm size, or two exact same measurements of a person at different phases in their life, and they will look completely different. Their body composition can be night and day. Arthur Jones always use to point out the difference between a muscular arm and a fat arm.

Why is that?

It's not fair though because you have access to the world renowned supinator.
