Ronnie Coleman - The King - On Netflix
« on: July 04, 2018, 11:05:30 PM »
Will watch this soon as always enjoy the stories and history of various bodybuilders, besides being there over the last 21 years...

Anyone see it yet?

Hi Ron.

I bought the HD version from Google Play last week...I'm not sure if there is a difference between the HD versus SD versions, but I went with HD anyway.

It's more or less what you would expect - high quality footage from past events/contests, interviews with other pros about Ronnie, and a lot of commentary from Ronnie, who seems to be in pretty rough shape these days.  :-\

I sort of nodded off while watching it the past couple of times, but I will sit through it this time.  I would suspect Ronnie does not have much time left - I could be wrong, but Ronnie himself stated that he felt like he was dying at times.  It was pretty sad in that way.

It's hard to feel sorry for someone that did it too themselves. Phil is a jackass, but he's smart.

I won't be viewing it as I've heard from reliable sources that even the closed captioning is stooooooopid.

You just can't please some people. One minute people call Phil Heath a punk (and much worse) for lifting "light" weights. Yet, when they lift heavy like Ronnie Coleman (and suffer injuries, as a result), then, they pick on Ronnie and say he was dumb for training the way he did.

If Ronnie can be criticized for anything, it's for not taking care of nagging injuries he's had for years while he was younger.

X2.

People loved Ronnie when he was on top and when he was old and broken down he did it all wrong. See Dorian for reference .

Maybe Jay Cutler is the one who did it all the right way.

Or maybe it's Dexter Jackson. After all, he's still competing and he did win the Olympia once (and almost won it in 2015).

No question Dexter is the correct answer.

I meant Jay looked good for being retired from competition and having reached the mountain top. I'm sure Dex will age well too.

Wrong .

People hate Philsulin for the way he acts ....the light weights and narrowness comments are thrown at him all the time for how arrogant he is .

Everyone loved Ronnie while he was on top ....even when he lost to Jay in 06' but after  he placed 4th ,started doing guest posings in terrible shape and started to reap just what he sow in previous years paving the way to his early graveyard, what can you expect from fans ???

Lee Haney won 8 Sandows and everyone seems to be pleased with the man  whether he trained heavy or not .

alot of people slag ronnie for his reckless training(of which most of the problems have been caused post retirement to be fair), yet I can guarantee that most who act all too coll for school jaded about bodybuilding were the same schmoe fans back in the day that were cheering ronnie and other pros on. Any member who denies this is full of shit on some point of this, because you ended up at this site for a fucking reason and I have been lurking or as a member since 99/2000 and this site was started and mainly about bodybuilding, especially whaatever the current time. I love the old days look myself but this site was never a a part of that even though some old queers here love to post only old pics of thier favourite musclemen of the 50's 60's and the 70's in thier bathing suits all the while trying to pretend to be straight

Anyways my point is Ronnie is one of the greatest of all time period as far as MR O's go, my choice for the best mr o ever is Lee Haney hads down because he won 8 times, retired while a champ, and has kept a good name and sensibility, plus he is the only Mr O ever on these boards where people can say whatever they want about his physique but nobody has eveer said a legit bad thing about the man himself

anyways if you have not watched nor do not plan to, nobody give a fuck about your need to fit in and be edgy negative opinion

I was never a fan of Ronnie or his training but I do admit his 2003 Olympia was the best I've ever seen, as far as huge and conditioned goes.

It's a biography, mixed with a sympathy piece for Ronnie. It goes through his life story from beginning, his rise through the ranks, his Olympia reign, and finally the last few busted out years. You get praise and backstage stories from most of the big time bodybuilders of the era about him, but nothing too shocking. It's definitely not hard hitting or surprising, but if you're a fan of Ronnie, it's decent.

6/10.

New found respect for Jay when he said he knew he’d didn’t beat Ronnie at his best and called him the best of all time. Respect for Jay.

I watched it the other day. Wasn't anything special but as a fan of Ronnie back in the day , I wouldn't have missed it.

Absolutely was shocked at the state he walks now. Certainly gets the sympathy from me. Anyone who slates the guy for his lifestyle choices, is pathetic.  :-\

I was shocked as well!  I knew he was fucked up by his recent posts on social media, but I didn't know it was that bad.  Pretty sad to see a former champion walking around like that.  I mean, could you imagine Michael Jordan being in shape, and he's even older.
