MATT, I've had a few meals over the years at the Firehouse and always felt that the meal was good and priced right for a small dining spot in a beach-side city.
Nothing fancy but definitely not overpriced garbage. And they always had stuff on the menu that the bodybuilders wanted.
And it was only a block away from Gold's ... so it did good business.
But I recently heard that he menu prices have been changed ,,, so I can't say anything about the value of a Firehouse meal as it is today.
TA, might have preferred the Rose Cafe directly across the street which serves fancier but good, higher priced meals in a more trendy atmoshere with the possibility of a real chef in the kitchen, but those days when you could get a six-egg breakkfast and a huge bowl of strawberrirs for less than five-bucks n Venice are definitely gone.
That place was called The German's and it ain't there no more but while it was open it catered to gym members troughout the L.A. Basin.
Anyone recall that place?
And even TA could never prepare a meal similar to Zuckey's where every SoCal bodybuilder throughout the 60's - 70's had a bowl of Jewish Chicken soup which cured any malidies.
And of ourse the little Swedish Smorgasboard by Gold's which was forced to go bankrupt because the bodybuilders liked it too damn much.
TA would have definitely liked that one!
