Obviously the neighbors don't get along. Calling the police on some kids who likely had no idea they'd crossed the property line is absurd. The lady or her husband could have simply talked to the kids and showed them were the property line is. Who calls the police on kids mowing a lawn? Police should be able to issue citations to folks who make frivolous complaint calls.

In my "lilly white" neighborhood there's generally not much for the police to do, which probably explains why they show up en masse for a traffic stop. West Linn Tidings, a weekly neighborhood newspaper, reported in the police blotter that a neighbor called the police because the kids next door were being too loud while shooting hoops in their own driveway during the daytime. That caller should have gotten a citation. It came out that they'd repeatedly called the police for quite awhile over the same issue. What's wrong with these people!!!

While living there we worked for our neighbor Reverend Johnson at both his group homes for delinquent youth, one for the guys and another for the gals.

My close high school friend married a fellow UCLA Grad student who happened to be black. All four of us,Timmy and Suzanne, my wife and I were practically inseparable. We hung out almost every weekend. We maintained our friendship for many years until they split up.

Obviously in Orange Mound, Memphis things are different because the crime-rate is reportedly extremely high. It also has a fairly low median income. The racial demographics are almost a complete flip compared to West Linn where blacks make up a mere 4% of the population.  It must be a pretty rough place if my skull would be in jeopardy of being cracked open. In revisiting you post, I want to make a couple of corrections for you. The person who picks up my trash in 2014 made around $27 an hour or $56,000 a year. Assuming a 3% annual increase, it puts the base annual salary at $64,000 + overtime and benefits. Actually, there are several haulers that show up on Wednesdays. One for garbage another for recycle, another for yard debris, and possibly one more for glass recycle. honestly, I have no idea whether any of them are black. I mow my lawn and I'm not black.
