There's a couple of reasons for this. Number one is that Trump makes such a big deal out of everything he does, even before it happens, that he sets the stage for criticism. Number two is that he's constantly challenging the media even though they had a lot to do with him being elected (good and bad media attention puts a person on the map). Number three is that in this event he was a total wuss.

1) So? He's the President.
2) The media is something like 97% negative towards Trump, if they had anything to do with Trump being elected it would show that the people don't trust their opinions.
