Take the political label away. I know people that vote democrat because they always have, same with repubs. If you take away the label of democrat and just look at what the person is running their campaign on, it might change some peoples minds on who they support.

Are you suggesting we do away with both parties and just vote for the individuals who are running for office? What a novel idea. -Don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Unfortunately, partisan politics are here to stay for awhile longer.

From what little I actually know about you, your self assessment seems right on. Hopefully, most people look at individual policies, and politicians before deciding what and who to support. I hate to think we really are all just a bunch of sheep, blindly doing whatever our individual sheepherders want.  Group think has produced some disastrous results.
