The below photo is credited to, I assume our very own, Vince Basile. Perhaps Vince B can enlighten us with details of the photo.

It's interesting that you could tell everyone's physique apart back then even without seeing their faces, in contrast to today when most of them look like bloated clones of each other.

It’s because we grew up with bodybuilding in that era. I would assume it will be the same for this generation of bodybuilding fans when today bodybuilders get older. Does that make sense?

That's easy because back in the days Bodybuilding was an art. They all worked out hard and kept a diet going as well.
Looks was everything at least most of the time.
Once Growth and Insulin came in the game plan it changed everything to the worst.

hgh and insulin ruined the sport.i really believe that is what led to guys getting over 230 and up . flex wheeler looked his best at 215 to 220 after that it was all down hill for him

Oh yes! Just look at the difference from then and now. Flex looked so good at that weight.(One of the greatest physique's ever) I think all the way up to Lee Haney they had that athletic healthy look. It actually looked good and you were able to keep a job!!
Today's bodybuilder weighing 340 lbs (Ramy)and all the Insulin they just couldn't do it. lol
That alone is a crazy thought.

I recall reading on another board ( can’t recall which one ) that Vince was buddies with Perry and Mable Reader who owned and published the Ironman magazine. I guess Vince contacted Perry and paid a fee to have the photo credit and actually never took any of them.
