I don't think Tyson used steroids

there is very strong suspicion Holyfield did, put on a lot of lean muscle fast training with Haney , and lost his hair in the process

He had the steroid look, especially around the upper chest, traps. neck. Nobody's saying he used IFBB amounts, but any athlete will try to get an edge if they can.

If Carl Lewis was able to cheat his way into a bunch of gold medals across the '80s and '90s with Olympic testing protocols in place, then surely a boxer could, too.

But no one knows for sure. Maybe he really was a lean 218 @ 5'11", even though that would put him in the elite genetics category because his conditioning was also on point.

A thick neck looks rad.  A sign of a strong athletic physique.  I know you can't train a chin, but a thick strong neck defitely helps absorb punishment in a fight.

I've trained many Orientals, you racist!

its the immense muscularity at a young age, along with the thick bone structure that makes me think he was a natural (independent of any steroid use that may or may not have taken place later in his career). With roid frauders you see their teenage pics and they're all skinny a twigs, absolutely no sign of any genetic gift towards propensity to build muscle at all. He was already 200-210lbs as a 15 year old, knocking out adult men in the amateurs.

That's true. Nasser as a 20-something vs Nasser with drugs, two different people. That's what makes these guys elite - they respond to drugs in a way average people don't. I would assume a guy as big as Tyson would be bigger even when cruising on low doses, so he may well have been natural at his peak. There is a possibility he used steroids to short-cut the mass-gaining process when he came back after leaving prison, because by that time he was MUCH bigger than he was in, say, 1990.

during the 90s sure. Thats when we started to see heavyweights go from tall dudes with a bit of the muscle to all of the sudden looking like bodybuilders, as well as what i call the artificial heavyweights - blown up light heavies and cruiserweights like holyfield.

during the 80s, its not such a given, there were way less many suspect physiques back then.

of course its hard to truly say delineate drug use in any sport. I remember reading ali's quack doctor prescribed him a bunch of T3 to drop the fat he he had gained. Ali even spoke openly about it and said he hated it, it made him feel like shit and made his brain feel like mush. alis crew was rather concerned because he was popping them like vitamin pills. Interestingly, they later tried to shift the blame of ali's parkinsons from boxing onto this brief experiment with T3, which of course is retarded. Yeah it was those damned pills! not the ridiculous amount of punches he took to his head in his late career  ::)

more than that, he was peripherally tied to two drug busts -

On February 28, 2007, Holyfield was anonymously linked to Applied Pharmacy Services, a pharmacy in Alabama that was under investigation for supplying athletes with illegal steroids and human growth hormone (HGH). He denied ever using performance enhancers.[49]

Holyfield's name does not appear in the law enforcement documents reviewed. However, a patient by the name of "Evan Fields" caught investigators' attention. "Fields" shares the same birth date as Holyfield, October 19, 1962. The listed address for "Fields" was 794 Evander, Fairfield, Ga. 30213. Holyfield has a very similar address. When the phone number that, according to the documents, was associated with the "Fields" prescription, was dialed, Holyfield answered.[50]

On March 10, 2007, Holyfield made a public announcement that he would be pursuing his own investigation into the steroid claims in order to clear his name.[51]

Holyfield was again linked to HGH in September 2007, when his name came up following a raid of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, Florida.[52] Signature Pharmacy was under investigation for illegally supplying several professional athletes with steroids and HGH.[53]

hes 240 in those pics? I don't think so

his fighting weight never was above 225 I don't think

he'd usually come in 217ish

In his early career he was in the 210s but like I said earlier post-prison he was much bigger.

For instance at the Lennox Lewis fight in 2002 he was 235, which means he was probably 260-270 offseason.

epic, powerful build... low dose androgens resulting in solid functional mass that is much more impressive than a 'bodybuilder' cuz he used his physicality to do terminator shit.

most entertaining black athlete ever

i dont think hes 240 in those pics, but he was 240 in the fight against nielsen. The nielsen fight was the heaviest he ever got iirc, and not in a good way.

He was exactly 234 pounds there, in the weigh in for the Lennox Lewis fight.

I watch this clip all the time. If I was that guy I would have started shitting my pants once Mike started getting fidgety and breathing harder, trying to control himself.
