Just another example of how the Left obfuscates an issue to get mainstream support. Support from basically good people who want everybody to be treated fairly and have the same rights as others. It was portrayed as equal rights for gays. After all, why not? How does it affect you?
But it wasn't about equal rights. It was about creating special rights that have never existed before in human history. Gays had the EXACT same rights as everybody else in regard to marriage. Anybody: Gays, Straights, whatever could marry fellow Gays, Straights or whatever. Sexual preference was never the issue. What they couldn't do was marry someone of the same sex. No one had that legal right either gay or straight. As Arnold said when running for governor: "I support gay marriage as long as it's between a man and a woman."
The issue was not about sexual preference. It was about redefining marriage. Creating a special right that never existed in human history. That of forcing society, through government coercion (which is what laws are) to recognize the marriage between members of the same sex.
Gays were getting married and playing house for decades before this became a legal issue and nobody cared. Now they wanted to get the government involved so that the State can compel you and others to force you to recognize, honor and even celebrated this union. They lie when they say they want the government to stay out of our private lives. No, they want it very much if it promotes their agenda.
