I also like Mann's Ali film even though I agree with with spike lee that it had the wrong tone

its very reverential befitting one of the greatest boxers of all time and certainly one of our most important and recognisable sporting figures, but its like that the entire film. A bit too dour for a film about a very witty, charismatic and positive man.

one of a very few boxing films where I'm not cringing during the fight scenes because its obvious the actors are absolute novices at boxing. Shooting it like a stunt and having real boxers play the opponents helped the realism a lot.

Probably the greatest film of its type. IMO....it does get better than Michael Mann's 1995 HEAT. Each guy near the top of his game. Tremendous story that is deeper than what is on the surface in so many ways. Greatest gunbattle ever. Pacino, Deniro, Kilmer, Sizemore, Trejo. Mature characters....grown men...not boys. Sizemore's line..." For me...the action is the juice"

British film "Lock Stock & 2 Empty Barrels" kills all Hollywood gangster movies  ;)

lol come on not even close

goodfellas, casino, scarface, carlito's way, eastern promises, donnie brasco, road to perdition... these all piss over it effortlessly

lock stock is like the stoner film of the genre in comparison. A fun little distraction and nothing more. Even with the british gangster subgenre i could name better films, such as Sexy Beast.

Heat is an absolutely ludicrous fantasy.   Pacino's character falling in love(in a brotherly way) with an armed robber ,who had gunned down multiple police officers.

Still,I'll watch the shootout ,if the film is ever on though. Very relaxing.

A couple of ex-SAS guys Andy Mcnab and Mike Gould were technical advisors for that scene. Maybe, that's one of the reasons it is so visceral and effective.

U know that shootout scene was loosely based upon the LA street shootout with the two guys that had body armor and armor piecing bullets?

yep

interestingly however, HEAT appears to be loosely based off a real life event and characters: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_(1995_film)#Factual_basis

Luckily for the police, it would appear guys with special forces training or even just infantry training arent into the habit of robbing banks or the downtown hollywood shootout would've ended as badly for the cops irl as it did for the ones in the movie.

LA Takedown was Mann's 1st try at a Heat type movie before the actual big budget one -

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3bj4w4 .

Pretty good considering it was an 80's Tv movie.

Ironic, that the media portrayed Deniro as "brave" to put forth his profanity laced tirade.  How brave does one have to be to say something like that in front of an entire crowd that agrees with him?  Not brave at all, just classless.

Tom Sizemore Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Brain Aneurysm

Actor Tom Sizemore has been hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm. He is currently in critical condition.

Sizemore’s representation confirmed the actor’s health status. His family has been made aware of the circumstances. Things are currently a “wait and see situation,” per Sizemore’s representation.

According to reports, Sizemore was discovered at his Los Angeles home around 2 a.m. and was promptly transferred to a local hospital.

The 61-year-old Sizemore came into his own as a Hollywood actor in the 1990s, building a career out through a variety of tough guy roles in action and drama films. He is likely best known for his performance as Technical Sergeant Mike Horvath in Steven Spielberg’s 1998 war film “Saving Private Ryan,” which was nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards.

After scoring smaller supporting roles in films like “Point Break” and “Wyatt Earp,” Sizemore became a more regular screen presence in ’90s Hollywood, working with directors such as Michael Mann, Martin Scorsese, Peter Hyams, Carl Franklin, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott and Michael Bay.

Sizemore is also a convicted abuser. In 2017, the actor pled no contest to two charges of domestic violence after being arrested a few months earlier on suspicion of assaulting his partner. In 2003, Sizemore was convicted of domestic violence against his girlfriend at the time, Heidi Fleiss.

In 2005, Sizemore was sentenced to several months in jail after being caught attempting to fake a urine test. In 2007, he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Sizemore has been public about his struggles with substance abuse, appearing on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Dr. Phil” to discuss his legal troubles.

Tom Sizemore Was Removed From Movie Set for Allegedly Violating 11-Year Old Girl

Actor Tom Sizemore was told to leave a Utah film set in 2003 after an 11-year-old actress told her mother that he had touched her genitals, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Months later, he returned for reshoots in Malibu after her parents declined to press charges. The incident has never been revealed publicly.

When contacted, the now 26-year-old former actress, whom THR is not identifying at her request, declined to address the matter except to note that she’s recently hired a lawyer to explore legal action against the actor as well as her parents. Sizemore declined to address the situation. “Our position is ‘no comment,'” says his agent Stephen Rice.

One of my favorite actors. He does phenomenal work for a junkie. Hope he pulls through. I will be diverting my funds away from one junkie (Shizzo) and towards another junkie’s (Sizemore) hospital bill.
