Stiffing is wrong regardless if it is a woman or a man doing it. I suspect that in most cases everyone at the table participates, leaving the restaurant in the lurch. Maybe this fellow was making a statement. He took a risk doing it and he ended up being a loser whose going to prison.

There's plenty of women who go on dates without a wallet, fully expecting that the meal is going to be complimentary just because they were born with a hole between their legs. What would they do if their date didn't have the money? They're all potential bill-stiffers if their date won't foot the bill, which unfortunately they always do (except in this case). It was definitely a statement; he'd probably grown tired of women wasting his time and taking his money.

I  think this guy ordered the foods, a lot of expensive items, and bailed out on the restaurant and woman.     It is called stealing from the restaurant, just like stealing something from a store, and he is going to pay for it.

As for being responsible in paying for a date.  If he asked her on a date, you should pay for dinner.   If she asked you, she should pay for dinner.   If they both asked each other, mutually, hey lets go to dinner, it should be equal or whoever feels like paying. 

It was a TOTAL of $1000 over 8 dinners, 1000~8=$125 per date. That should be 10 years in prison and $315k bail??? Punishment is far too harsh for the crime, typical California bullshit.
