Does loose skin ever bounce back?
« on: September 24, 2018, 06:51:49 AM »
For a couple of years I ate everything in sight, over the last year I got my ass back into great shape but my lower abs have loose skin from when I held fat there.  I've been trying skin tightening lotion and stuff but the skin just sags and is all wrinkled right in the lower part of my abs.  I fucking hate it.  Without needing plastic surgery has one here had this where eventually it just tightened back up again?

Posting at getbig 24 hours a day is the real reason why you have saggy skin. Until you start doing something other than posting, your saggy skin will remain.

If below 30yo and if you have bleech white skin yes. If you get a tan easily, that kind of skin ages and sags more easily.

Maybe, age is a factor, and I've always contented that it has to do with the amount of weight dropped. Say you're #275 and you drop to #225, you're probably safe. #350 to #200, you're going to see it, especially around the belly button. I've seen a number of SHW powerlifters come down, and you always see a little something around the belly button.

Bruce Randall is a famous example of this, in his bodybuilding days he routinely got into the high #300's then dropped to low #200's -

.

.

At about 3 minutes in, you can see him pose at #183, note the belly button.

you must have been very over weight. Normally it´s not a big Problem. Maybe age too.

In my experience, as one ages, the less elasticity our skin has. Over the last couple of years I lost 25-30 lbs. The skin on my lower abs is slowly tightening up, but I doubt it will ever be as tight as it once was unless I was to have surgery. Lotions and creams might help, but it is unlikely they can get you where you'd like to be and they an be very expensive.

Also as we age our skin may become 'thinner' which could result in more visual vascularity.

Things you apply topically won't do anything lasting.   Movie makeup artists apply Preparation H to face and eye bags to tighten temporarily, but you have to do it again a few hours later.

Can you imagine how much Preparation H it would take to temporarily tighten the skin on your midsection? That's if it even worked.

Skin quality is the first thing to go for a competitive bodybuilder (outside health concerns).

Short answer: No.
Depending on the amount of mass lost, the time it took to lose, the time spent overweight (skin stretched), and other variables will dictate whether or not surgery is the best option.

But, speaking from tons of experience, there are no magical creams, pills, wraps, topical crap, etc. that will somehow strengthen the skin's elasticity.  Think of a balloon that has been filled to the max with air for years and then taking half of the air out.  The balloon wall will inevitably be weaker and more stretched.  Additionally, think if that same balloon was stretched to the max and air was taken out and blown back up repeatedly over years (yo-yo dieting)...the elasticity of the balloon will NEVER go back to what it was before the air was put in.

I had surgery (circumferential body lift) to correct over 14" of loose skin from losing weight.  Worst recovery ever (8 months total in all) but worth every penny!  There was no way at all my skin would've ever magically tightened back up so I was left with only one choice of surgery.  To each his own.

Best of luck!

EDIT:  Also, the Prep H trick was cool back in the day, however, the company removed the actual ingredient that allowed for fat cells to dehydrate locally, so it won't matter how much preparation h and saran wrap you use, you will NOT get the same effect that people in the 90's did!  Completely different product now...

WEIGHTS-OVER, I know a lot of Hollywood peole who could easily afford circumferential body lift surgery, but I've never heard of anyone doing it and I am not aware if any health plan in the US covers cosmetic surgery unless it is health related.

Can you provide more info and the cost in US dollars that you paid to remove excess skin?

I, personally, don't 'suffer' from excessive skin ... but I do know many who do.

As you get older beginning after the age of about 20-25 you lose about 1% of collagen and elastin each year after. If you are overweight, especially around the belly, when you lose the weight the loose skin becomes more prominent. You can slow the process but that's really about it. It's a part of the aging process. Sucks.

Do you have a scar all the way around below your waistline?   My loose skin is just on the lower part.  I can hide it if I hike my shorts up a bit but I like my shorts sitting low so it sucks.  Luckily it's not on the sides or anything.  Good for you do doing that surgery.

Thanks guys...kinda weird to get positive replies instead of the typical GetBigger response! (I'm sure it'll come)

The surgery was $12,500, due upfront.  I had it done in 2012.
I do have a small scar around my entire waist, but it's extremely light and small, and the surgeon did such a great job, you cannot see it whatsoever, even in the tiniest posing trunks  ::) .  Unless you're seeing me naked, you'd never know I had it or would ever see it.  I have over 2,000 stitches in total.

I realize that was a lot of stitches but what made the recovery so bad?

Great results there , Weights Over.

Congrats.

I've heard that skin reduction surgery is a long recovery.  Same with tummy tuck I think.

The never ending pain!!!!!! It was the worst horrific experience of my life.  I was sent home with two drain tubes (that the Dr eventually admitted should've been four) that constantly bled out.  I had to wear a compression garment for 6 months but couldn't move without extreme assistance for about 5 weeks straight.  I couldn't lay down flat for months and had to sit upright 24/7.  I needed constant help, so my wife had to take a month off work, then my family had to step in and help me move around.  If I moved a quarter inch in any direction it felt like I was going to rip apart...like literally hot knives stabbing me where I felt like I was going to be pulled in half!
Aside from that, I was basically a crackhead for 6 months due to the necessity of being on every prescription pain pill imaginable.  I atrophied down to 156lbs from the surgery (I was 330 at my heaviest) skin and bones and sick/unhealthy.

I remember trying to get up from the couch on my own one time a few weeks out because I was already sick of having to rely on other people, and naturally, the second I moved too far forward, I popped stitches in my back and bled out to what looked like a murder scene and had to be rushed back to the dr.

My stomach around my navel is still numb and the feeling will never come back.  Up to 1.5 years post surgery, I was still having extreme hot knife sharp pains from the nerve endings finally waking up...I'd be walking around fine and normal and suddenly drop to my knees because it felt like someone had literally stabbed me.  The whole recovery process was just awful, awful, awful.  But, soon enough, I was able to walk back in the gym and finally lift again.  I started with 5lb DB's and was unable to flat bench for almost 2 years, so the majority of chest work was done with cables and incline benches.  I didn't sleep flat in a bed for almost a year.

I could go on and on...

My entire story of WLS, skin surgery, and competing is on my site, TheWeightStopsNow dot com if anyone cares to see more.

I was definitely one of the guys that subscribed to the whole magic pill process of tightening skin, but I can 100% assure you nothing will help tighten your skin if it's loose, period!  Unfortunately, surgery is the only cure.

Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing.  I thought it was brutal wearing a compression garment for a month after I had my gyno cut out but that's nothing compared to what you went through.  Can't argue with your results though
