What's the point? Are they looking for new fresh water sources or chemical elements which aren't on the periodic charts?

I've only ever been shallow water diving but I remember my dive instructor telling us that pretty much everyone in the cave diving community knows at least one, usually more people who've died. Looks awesome though (as long as your lights stay on).

For me, that sign would do the trick. Not that I’d ever consider it, anyway. What a nightmarish way to croak.

Here's the interior of the "hydro-cosmos" (40 x 10 x 100 meters), illuminated for the first time.  Now you've seen it.  And that's as close as I ever want to get to being down there.

Isn't that where the Loch Ness-monsters relatives live?

Just looking at this pic gives me the creeps.

I’m not a fish. I prefer to be where there’s oxygen.

Despite all the diving I have done, I have NEVER had an interest in cave diving.  I'm not even interested in wreck diving.  Seeing it from a distance is enough for me.

Only stupid people do this.

I fell into a wiki-hole one night and for some reason was reading about cave diving and ultra deep diving.  One of the things I thought eerie was that one of the divers tied the oxygen rope around himself after running low, so that no one would die looking for him, they could just bring him up.  Thinking about that, and what goes through ones mind when faced with their own demise, gives me the willies.

It also talked about how people turn into a wax like substance when they have bene down there for long periods of time, like years.  I also read about guys who died just trying to fish peoples bodies out of the caves etc.  Crazy shit.

There was a special ops guys that died in those caves rescuing those Thai kids.  He had hundreds of hours of diving experience too.
