57 years old is too young.

Heck of a marketer.  Really did a lot of stuff in the training field.

But 57...heart attack?

Maybe he was doing his "death circuit" routine.

It is with a heavy heart that the Poliquin family from Ottawa announces the sudden passing of their brother Charles, a strength trainer much esteemed in his community. He was 57 years old. He leaves behind his daughter Krystal, his brothers Michel, Daniel and Louis, his beloved sisters, Isabelle and Stéphanie as well as a countless number of friends. A celebration of his life will take place. Details on the event will be shared in the next few days.

I'm sad, another little piece of my weightlifting childhood gone.

I'll admit, he got a little wacky sometimes, but the Poliquin Principles series of books are still worthwhile classics in there field. One of the first authors to blend dry training science with magazine style prose successfully. Another thing that should be mentioned is that he was always good about giving credit where it was due. Old timers? Young upstarts? If Poliquin like you, and thought you had something to offer, he'd mention it.

RIP.

Could be, he had bypass surgery in his 30's, and a bunch of stents, etc.... put in over the years.

57? Unless it was from something we don't know about (suicide, drug overdose, cancer etc etc) this sounds like a genetic thing. Had a friend pass away at 48 from a heart attack yet he was as fit as they come. Nordic skier, cyclist, all that. But his family had a history of people passing in their late 40's.

All these guys die from genetic defects.  It never has anything to do with loads of steroids and an 8,000 calorie a day diet. ::)

My mother died at 56 from a heart attack. I should have checked her toxicology screen for steroids. Oh, and she must have been sneaking in those 8000 calories a day when no one was looking  ::)

You don't actually believe all of these deaths and health problems these guys in the fitness industry suffer from is from genetics do you?  Every time another bodybuilder in his 30's goes on kidney dialysis we hear about how it's genetic.  I've never met anyone on kidney dialysis at any age and bodybuilding is full of them, all genetic I suppose.  Why is it so hard for people to admit their lifestyle caused all their problems?

For what it's worth, one of his brothers and father died from heart problems early too it seems. The earliest I can find him referencing a heart attack was 1994, so he was 33ish.
