Yeah, who doesn't want to drive a Rover again.  ::)

The English don't make anything, they just copy what other people invented or import it at extortionate prices that get passed onto consumers. It's why their currency's grossly overvalued and they have to ship Pakis and Muslims by the shipload because their own people are all on benefits or working dead-end jobs and living in council flats.

Also, why do your body look like an elevator landed on it vertically?

I don't know if this is a joke...I will treat it as honestly not knowing..."Built in Antenna" refers to not having to connect an external antenna for local reception...

LMFAO. I totally glossed over that. That is hilarious. If he's serious, getbig just hit a new low for stupidity, and I'm including Straw Man's posts in that calculus.

One would think, with this new worldwide AI/robotic automation revolution, that the dependence on cheap Chinese slave labor, at some point, would become unnecessary due to the availability of armies of robots to work 24/7/365 without pay, complaints, or suicide nets.

The UK had a very good run from 1760's to 1820's with the Industrial Revolution.  It was was pivotal in mans history and there is much to be proud of.

I think British Leyland typifies what happened to all British industry.  When it was formed it was the fifth largest auto company in the world and now England has no domestic auto companies.  The crown jewels of British Leyland, Jaguar and Land Rover are now owned by Tata, an Indian company.  Back in 1959 there were few cars that were the equal of the Mark 2 even coming from zee Germans.

For comparison, this is what a BMW looked like in 1962.  Which would you rather have?

Yes. Why import something made in a Chinese sweatshop for £1 When you can make it yourself for £10.

I wouldn't expect the far right to understand the concept of comparative advantage.

Why don't you tell that to Germany, Japan, and South Korea?  Would you rather have a BMW or Mercedes off the assembly line from Germany or China?  My Brother in law bought a Jetta and he wanted to make sure his car came off a German assembly line not a Mexican assembly line.

they should legalise weed. easy billion+ a year in taxes.

it's safer than alcohol and commercial production makes it safer and takes money out of scummy drug dealers' pockets.

I equate anything made in China with junk.  Japan used to have the same reputation before they started to understand the importance of quality.

I don't believe the UK's dwindling manufacturing sector is a small problem.  In fact I think It's caused many of the social problems of the UK.

Yes I understand comparative advantage, but what is the UK producing that China wants?  Overpriced real estate in London?  And what has been the GDP growth of the UK over time compared to China?

Financial services for one. The UK excels in services industries. 80% of GDP comes from that sector. What's the point in trying to compete with china  manufacturing low tech items when they can produce them at a fraction of the cost?

Just so we can say "we still make fings".

It makes more sense to concentrate resources resources into areas where we are more productive.

And it's just a regurgitated myth that Chinese products are low quality. On the whole the products they export are globally the best value for money available. That's why everyone keeps buying them. B

The main reason the British pound is still so overvalued is because most of the world's foreign currency exchange takes place in the City of London, about 2.5 billion US dollars per day.

Scotland is exporting tons of stuff to the Chinese and it is growing.  Education (Chinese students being sent to Scottish universities), Salmon, Whiskey and high end clothing.

They fuckin love it.

Even have their own Chinese Scottish tartan.

The Chinese Scottish tartan was originally created to signify the special relationship that exists between Scotland and China and between the Scots and the Chinese community in Scotland. The inspiration for this tartan came from Madam Guo Guifang, Chinese Consul General, who once spoke of the unique Scottish tartan as one of the major tourist attractions for the Chinese and suggested the idea of creating a specific tartan for the Chinese people. Designed by Heather Yellowley of the Strathmore Woollen Company of Forfar and facilitated by Angus Council and the Scottish Tartans Authority, the tartan incorporates the colours of the Scottish Saltire together with the red and yellow of the Chinese flag. These are interwoven with green bands to symbolise the great co-operation between Scottish and Chinese botanists in the Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh - home to the world's largest collection of Chinese plants outside China itself. The yellow crosses the red in five places which signifies the five stars of the Chinese Flag, the biggest and brightest being represented by the yellow cross in the middle of the red. The tartan was presented to Madam Guo on 6th April 2006 as part of the Tartan Day Celebrations which took place in the Scottish county of Angus.
