It's been in South Africa and other exotic countries as well, mostly in the 70s-80s.

I don't know why they fixed the location to Vegas in the mid-2000s. My best guess is that a show that couldn't even be broadcast on a decent webcast that didn't freeze every 5 minutes, can't get any airtime on TV or even PPV, can only fill 2/3 of the seats in the contest hall, and is viewed with disdain by the general population due to its drug culture probably doesn't have the funds or motivation to move the show every year to various cities around the world or even the country. It's a freakshow and freakshows typically only exist in one place. Maybe some IFBB insiders have better answers but I think that's a reasonable hypothesis; in short, nobody cares about it to travel 3000 miles for it.

I remember years ago welder announced for safety reasons it was going to be held in the US only. Today that would spark outrage with cries of racism.

Joe prolly did it for economic reasons and didn’t give a dam about safety if athletes or fans.
Maybe someone’ can chime in about what events were going on in the world at that time for him to say that. Some kind of violence in other countries.

I have no idea wht the attendance count was at the actual Olympia contest which was held in the Orleas Arena, but rhe Olympia Expo drew 45,000 attendees into the Las Vegas Convention Center.

I have been told that 45,000 is significant enough to reserve space within the LVCC each year.

Nowhere near the number of CES attendees of 200,000+, but Olympia week draws enough attendees to keep this town interested. (Financially)

At the time that the Olympia was an international event, there weren't many pro shows besides it, so maybe that justified relocating it annually. With so many shows in Europe and Australasia, it's probably not worth moving it from a venue that attracts tourism and money already, like Vegas. The Las Vegas of the 1970s and 1980s wouldn't have been suited for a pro BB show anyway.

Lots of hotels and other activities for attendees to do.

Having it in Vegas most likely increases the draw.
