Serious question: Mind-Muscle Connection?
« on: October 20, 2018, 09:12:50 AM »
Does it exist? Today when I worked biceps, I really focused on moving the weight with my bicep, instead of my hand and forearms. I "pretended" that my hand and forearms were only a leverage holding the weight and my bicep was doing the actual moving. Of course, I had to go lighter, but the burn felt more intense compared to  just "throwing" a weight around and not truly focusing. Naturally, it doesn't matter if youre juicing, as you can just throw around the weight and get huge. But, is the mind-muscle connection more important for naturals?  ??? ??? ???

Pic for reference.  In before, "you look like shit, hope this helps," "do you even work out," and "lose weight."  :D :D :D

Yes, it exists. You can't just go through the motions and expect results.

Well, as a natural, you definitely can't.

I definitely feel a better pump or burn or however you want to phrase it when I focus on the mind-muscle connection.

I am just trying to figure out of its Broscience!!  ??? ???

Coach is Back thinks differently!

I may be wrong.

It would nice if there were scientific studies to determine some of this stuff but I'm not aware of any.

So much of what we believe in bodybuilding is without scientific foundation.

Personally, I wish Santa Claus was real.  That would be so cool.

Importance of mind-muscle connection during progressive resistance training

European Journal of Applied Physiology

March 2016, Volume 116, Issue 3, pp 527–533 | Cite as

Conclusion

Resistance-trained individuals can increase triceps brachii or pectarilis major muscle activity during the bench press when focusing on using the specific muscle at intensities up to 60 % of 1RM. A threshold between 60 and 80 % appeared to exist.

Mind-muscle connection training principle: influence of muscle strength and training experience during a pushing movement

Conclusion

Pectoralis activity can be increased when focusing on using this muscle during push-ups, whereas the ability to do this for the triceps is dependent on years of training experience. Maximal muscle strength does not appear to be a decisive factor for the ability to selectively activate these muscles

Interesting.

It stands to reason if you think about what you are doing when you do pushups you'll do better than if you are checking out the woman in the thong while you do pushups or are just lackadaisical in doing them.

Concentration usually helps in performance in certain things.

So I can accept that.

The study indicated this only works up to 60% of max though?  I wonder why that is?

Maybe once you get over 60% you have to really concentrate anyway or your muscles are maximally contracted under higher loads.

Best book about mind muscle connection was Psychoblast by Denie from the 1980's.  Really weird book but good and hard to find a copy available anywhere.

Yes it's the difference between a powerlifter and a bodybuilder

PL: lift item from A to B don't matter what muscles/momentum/swing/whatever

BB: Contract specific muscle/muscle group

Lighter resistance allows for more focus on form and momentum. Max or near max resistance focuses on just moving the weight however one can.

the longer u lift and the lighter the load... the better your mind muscle connection will b. isolating individual muscles by feel during a movement becomes easy over time, second nature – will that enhance development? not past genetic limitations.

some have super minimal response to training, no matter how mentally in tune they become with their body.

This. You have to wonder about idiots like sf1900... has he ever been high in his life? What HAS this imbecile done? SF, take a 10mg edible, go to the gym, and then delete this thread. You'll have your answer.

Not even a beer or a glass of wine before you were of legal age to drink?

Beer and wine are both legal.  ??? ???

Whether I drank beer at 15 or 35, it would still not make it an illegal substance.

People who teach things other than bodybuilding...I am thinking of pianists and violinists do definitely believe in this...I would think especially violinists because the instrument is fret-less.

Does this mean you drank alcohol as a minor?
