I feel bad for Ronine but he needs to accept his part in this.

Yeah - he is not that smart.  We all love the weights - but there is a time to lighten the load - like Shawn says - for longevity.

I watched the Ronnie documentary, the doctor did say for the sake of his back and surgeries, Ronnie isn’t supposed to work out at all, doesn’t matter if heavy or light, he was advised not to lift at all

Of course he does it anyways, cause that’s all he knows, quite sad though, Ronnie even goes on record saying “my legs are still numb, I can’t lift heavy right now” and proceeds to work out while walking around in crutches

Ronnie can't live without the (heavy) weights. He needs someone close to tell him the truth or he will die within the next years.
He needs to reinvent himself like Dorian and other ex-bodybuilders did before it's too late. Nothing more to prove, he's one of the goats.

Shawn was 100% right in his analyzation of Ronnie's post career missteps. They need a intervention with Ronnie, get Dobson, Warren, and all those big Texas boys in on it.

Also for those that haven't seen it, the Ronnie documentary came up on the side feed while I was watching -

Remember he said way back in “The Unbelievable” that he had a herniated disc. And that was back in 2000. So this has been going on for awhile. I admit, even back then, it made me pause and wonder, but then everybody got caught up in the fact that he was the freak of all freaks. Instead of training smarter and lighter, which is what he did for his arms (lighter), he went full bore, with the owner of the gym egging him on.

My guess is A) that is all he knows. B) he is stubborn C) he is delusional and high on pain meds D) everything that has defined him, revolves around pushing weight. Even his job was to help facilitate him working out.

And let’s not forget, Dorian went from working out and PEDs, to yoga and Weed, drugs are still part of his lifestyle.

Ronnie stated while prepping for a show, can’t recall what yr, think 96, he was squatting 600 and heard a pop but didn’t know what it was until he started feeling pain in his back

Thing is, he could have gotten to his size without squatting that much. Or back squatting period. Flex broke his neck, and adjusted to not squatting by doing leg presses and reverse back squats.

And yet, Ronnie pressed on.

Shawn Ray’s a true beacon of light in high-level bodybuilding.

Like Haney, he achieved a lot, kept his head above water, and then retired ... body intact (there are always aches and pains, obviously) and a solid footing in reality.

He’s well spoken, intelligent and a straight shooter (the last attribute brought him a lot of grief in his competitive days).

Teper used to take the piss about him being cheap, etc., but fact is, Shawn’s wise and a solid dude. He’s always been friendly with me. Reliable.

His take on Ronnie is 100-percent accurate, with the exception him saying he’s stupid-smart (or whatever). Coleman is stupid-stupid.

100% common sense by Shawn. I think in general someone should not stay too long in any subculture. Especially one that is so life shortening as bodybuilding.
Move on, it will help you get a better perspective imo

That was good stuff right there.  I've goofed on Shawn in the past but wow, everything he said was 100% spot on.

People have to move on in life.  Ronnie was amazing for a time, like many others in their respective fields.  When you're done, BE FUKKING DONE and move on to something else.  Kudos to Shawn   8)

With his genetics and base he could just pump up everyday with surgical tubing or rubber bands and he would still look good.  It is insanity what he keeps doing to his body.  He should take a page from Herschel Walker's book.

Walker's not actually a genius.  At least most of his personalities aren't.

Mike o Hearn is next, it’ll get him sooner or later with all the heavy lifting he does, no one escapes without injuries with years of lifting heavy weights

Thank you.  Hearn is biggest ego lifter since Branch Warren.

Ronnie’s roots were in the sport of powerlifting. He just added bodybuilding exercises to that powerlifting base.
He didn’t want to uproot, and forsake his first love.

Yeah but he’s been retired for about 11 years and still trying to swing weights while his doctors advise him not to lift at all

I’m not so sure. Mike is a sturdy white boy (generally much tougher, structurally) who is a very precise lifter and who hasn’t juiced himself through the roof.
