Who is on your Basketball Mount Rushmore?
« on: November 02, 2018, 05:09:51 AM »
Wilt Chamberlin
Larry Bird
Michael Jordan
Stephen Curry

This is mine. LeBron could replace someone depends on how his career ends but Curry changed the game. Basketball is different because of him. He does shit I've never seen and I still don't want to accept. LeBron is a monster no doubt but Curry will end up with like 7 rings and best shooter ever. The Most high certainly blessed him with his talent and hard work brought it out.

I gotta give it to Larry Bird. The original 3 point King and tough as bricks. A great clutch guy. All time I'm going with him, Curry or Jordan for clutch. Plus I'm giving Larry extra point for overcoming the odds and beating Hebrews. Could you imagine that today? Larry Legend.

I wouldn't put Jordan on there and thats ok. The greatest president in history (Trump) having effectively beaten his own party and the democrats is not on rushmore. Jordan is the greatest and doesn't need to be on rushmore to validate that.

Rushmore is about presidents who crafted the America we know today, true forefathers. For that reason:

Magic
Bird
West (logo)
Russell

I'm good with these BUT Steph Curry????????????  Are you joking?  He's not even the best player on his own team.  He's probably more like the third best player on his team.  I'd take Klay before him.  Klay is a sick defender.

Steph Curry is a bold choice, but I gotta say I think you're right--he changed the game.  3 pointers used to be seen as a gimmick but he really cemented the notion that they are the way to win the game.  Young kids today are gonna model their game after him, looking to be a 3 point sharpshooter like Steph.

When Wiggs did a thread a few years ago about Steph Curry being better than Jordan, I thought he was nuts. But today Curry's accomplishments hold up.

Hes the best shooter of all time. When the warriors first got to the finals the consensus was you can't win a championship with a team based on taking jump shots...... Long story short Curry and his shooting has completely changed the game. The 3 is more important than ever, the midrange game is considered worthless.

Espn just had an article about Curry being discredited because of his demeanor. I also think his untraditional development, because it took him a few years to evolve and become a dominant player, hurts him. We've created this mythology that truly great players are dominating from the moment the step foot in the nba, Curry doesn't fit that narrative but it doesn't change the fact that hes an all time great.

Theres only a handful of players with 2 MVP's and 2 championships. Curry is on that legendary list.

When Durrant leaves and Golden State still wins a championship maybe then people will realize what Curry has done.

Curry is alot like kobe, in that he will look godlike on a november night in toronto but merely very good on a june finals day in la.Jordan actually got better in the playoffs and looked even more like an untouchable god.Curry is awesome in these regular season outburts, but lets see him do just half of it in the finals or win 1 finals mvp first.Dont be a prisoner of the moment.

This is true. He needs a dominant finals performance.

Miller was great no question, and who knows how much better he would be in today's game, but let's not act like Curry is a scrub.

Larry Bird, Larry Bird, Larry Bird and Larry Bird.
Amazing. And amazing person.

When my Dad was dying in hospital in Boston in 1985, Larry called him on the phone, talked for 30 mins, he knew my Dad was a huge fan.
(2 of my uncles worked in the original Garden for 30 years, talked to Larry, he did it).

Not the best athletic player, his mind and hand skill, one of the best. (Like Brady).

If I had to add 3 more, Jordan, LeBron, Bill Russel...

Great point Wiggs

LeBron is an all-time great for sure but he's basically a really good version of other players who have come before him in terms of play style.  Curry is unique.

Kobe shot a little worse in the Finals (41% vs. 44% in both the regular season and the playoffs) but other than that it's hard to make a strong case that he was an appreciably worse player.  Jordan shooting % was also lower in the finals (48% vs. 50% regular season even if you include the two seasons on the Wizards where he shot shitty).

You guys keep saying Curry isn't the best player on his team. How many rings does Durant have without Curry? If Durant leaves, they will be fine they can find someone else. If Curry left, it's a different team. How you play defense changes. Curry spreads defenses to lengths never seen opening up opportunities for others. Curry is a threat anywhere on the court. People keep talking about his defense. It's not as if he's a liability. Curry is the most IMPORTANT player on his team.

The one thing that would have put Curry over Jordan is beat his record of 72-10 AND winning, but Lebron, Draymond and the refs ruined it.
