Former baseball player Curt Schilling ripped into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Tuesday, calling her the “most unintelligent person, man or woman, in our government.”

Schilling’s tweet was a response to Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet about outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan that implied sexism as the reason why Ocasio-Cortez and Ryan were treated differently, despite being elected to congress at roughly the same age. Following Schilling’s comments, Democratic Rhode Island Rep. David Cicilline took to Twitter to defend Ocasio-Cortez while also accusing the ex-MLB pitcher of tax evasion in his home-state, a charge Schilling denied.

A six-time All-Star, Schilling spent two decades as a pitcher in the MLB, and has always been outspoken about his generally conservative political beliefs, both during his career, and after it. Some of his beliefs are considered highly controversial.

Despite his success, Schilling has not been inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, with some speculating that his political beliefs might be the reason for his continued exclusion.

Democrat Schoen on 'The Five': Pelosi Should Tell Ocasio-Cortez to 'Be Silent for a While'

Former Clinton adviser Doug Schoen agreed with outgoing Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill's (Mo.) recent criticism of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, arguing the soon-to-be-freshman lawmaker should not be the new face of the party.

In a recent interview, McCaskill referred to the Democratic socialist newcomer as "a bright, shiny new object" and said she's "confused" by all the attention Ocasio-Cortez has garnered since her shocking victory over 10-term incumbent Democrat Joe Crowley.

"I'm not sure what she's done yet to generate that kind of enthusiasm, but I wish her well," McCaskill said, blasting Ocasio-Cortez's "cheap" rhetoric.

Responding on "The Five," Schoen said that he'd prefer if the 29-year-old Bronx native would "just go away" because of her far-left positions, emphasizing Democrats need to win over moderate voters to defeat President Trump in 2020.

"I hope Nancy Pelosi gets to her and says she'd do better for herself to be silent for a while, because she is not the face or the voice of the Democratic Party that I grew up with, know and continue to support," he said.

Fox News contributor Lawrence Jones added that both Democrats and Republicans are underestimating Ocasio-Cortez and her influence on young voters.

"You can't laugh at socialism when they start winning," he said. "She's not the only one. There are waves of these Democratic candidates, and it's because of the rise on these college campuses where these kids are taught that socialism works. They feel like it works."

Katie Pavlich responded by saying Ocasio-Cortez is definitely not "going away," as Schoen hoped.

The panel on Wednesday also discussed Ocasio-Cortez's tweet on Christmas, in which she described Jesus as a "refugee."

On a college campus socialism works. It’s not until you graduate and are hit in the face with reality that you see it differently. But I guess for some, they don’t get the wake up call and want to continue the ride.

College kids and recent grads feel socialism works because you are in a socialist bubble in college. I had the same views while in college. “Hey can you swipe me at the dining hall?” , or “I can’t wait until my student loan check comes in”, or how about just living with a bunch of people not really working and sitting in class all day waiting for the weekend to party? On a college campus socialism works. It’s not until you graduate and are hit in the face with reality that you see it differently. But I guess for some, they don’t get the wake up call and want to continue the ride.

Make no mistake, this woman and her ilk are dangerous.

Make higher education an up front paid endeavor instead of loans for life and see how quickly the pricing and pace of things change as well as the attitudes of all involved. The whole idea of a liberal arts education for average people is a fairy tale, the jobs that are available after these crap degrees bear this out. What can be expected when you are programmed to receive rather than be prepared for life?

Top progressive lawmakers Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said this week they will vote against bylaws to govern the 116th Congress that are backed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the likely next Speaker.

Their objection is to the inclusion of what's known as a pay-as-you-go rule, which requires that legislation be deficit neutral, meaning any costs would need to be offset with new revenue or cuts elsewhere.
