For perhaps the first time this year, I find myself in full agreement with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The circumstances of Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent suicide seem very strange indeed, so much so that it raises all sorts of questions as to what happened, how, and especially why:

Ocasio-Cortez is hardly the only person demanding answers either, as Epstein’s victims have been robbed of their opportunity for justice. Epstein wasn’t just some minor figure sitting in a local lockup who had never sent out any signals of potential self- (or other-directed-) harm. “He was probably the most high-profile inmate” in federal custody in that facility, CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz reminded viewers, one who had apparently attempted suicide once before. Why wasn’t Epstein under 24-hour watch? Paul Callan wonders the same thing:

“It raises a lot of questions in a lot of people’s minds,” CNN’s anchor comments at the end. Indeed it does. This is precisely what “suicide watch” is intended to prevent. Epstein’s victims deserved their day in court against the predator who exploited him, and also their day in court against anyone else who joined in that exploitation. If NBC’s correct, then someone needs to explain why the suicide watch was cancelled on Epstein — including who ordered it and why.

Only 10 people who live within Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional district have been recorded making donations to her reelection campaign in 2019, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of available Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings. Ocasio-Cortez outraised all other 87 freshmen representatives in the first half of 2019 in individual contributions, but the New York Democrat came in second-to-last place in terms of reported itemized contributions from the people she represents.

Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan also rank among the lowest-performing freshman representatives in terms of reported financial support from people who live within their districts.

Ocasio-Cortez’s reelection campaign has reported receiving contributions from just 10 individuals living within her district in the first half of 2019, according to its Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

The FEC only requires that political campaigns disclose the names and addresses of individuals who contribute over $200 to their campaigns during an election. Campaigns report their big-dollar donors to the FEC in what’s called itemized contributions.

The $1,525.50 Ocasio-Cortez received from her New York constituents represents less than 1% of her campaign’s itemized contributions reported to the FEC in the first half of 2019.

Former New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind sued Ocasio-Cortez for blocking him right after the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that President Trump violated the Constitution by blocking Twitter users whose posts he did not like. On Monday morning, Hikind announced the two had reached a settlement.

“This is a great moment for everybody,” Hikind told Fox News.

Ocasio-Cortez initially fought the lawsuit. In an August court filing, Ocasio-Cortez had admitted she blocked Hikind, but denied all allegations regarding her motivation for doing so.

As part of the agreement, the first-year congresswoman unblocked Hikind and issued an apology.

“I have reconsidered my decision to block Dov Hikind from my Twitter account,” her statement said. “Mr. Hikind has a First Amendment right to express his views and should not be blocked for them.”

She continued, saying, “In retrospect, it was wrong and improper and does not reflect the values I cherish. I sincerely apologize for blocking Mr. Hikind.”

I had hoped the guy she blocked would not have accepted her fake "apology" and she would have to testify in federal court why she did it (probably not a good look for her) and she might have faced worse consequences. When the same issue came up with Trump the Courts decided that Twitter is a "designated public forum" therefore public officials cannot block people on 1st Amendment grounds (despite the "public forum" arbitrarily enforcing whatever "rules" it comes up with), leftists, the blue checkmark mob and assorted TDS sufferers cheered but didn't realize this applied to all public officials, not just the "orange man".
