There's probably layers of indemnity. So much signed safety paperwork that anyone who gets hurt is deemed careless and at fault. Companies are probably an llc held by a trust held by an llc, etc, with all the profits distributed away. Anything goes tits up they just declare bankruptcy, close up shop, and open another one. I've lost more than I care to admit over the years to assholes who run up debts and hide behind bankruptcy laws.
Guys who have their own plant can't really play the game that way. That's why I'm always leery of 'paper builders' who subcontract everything.
