If you happen to look good with it, go for it - but very few do. It seems to be also an old(er) man's dress code - take for example Mel Gibson who most likely looks way better with a beard now then without one.

The beard thing has run it's course. It's not cool anymore. Too many guys with beards wearing lumberjack shirts that are not manly.  Just hipsters.

a few hollywood actors grew one and then the masses just followed, suddenly women like them when in the past they just viewed them as low status and gross

some guys look badass with them, but you had to look tough to begin with

everybody else just looks lazy or older, looking older is cool when you are too young to drink

i also think bald guys use a beard to compensate for hair loss
