The housing market there will implode over the next few years.  As the stock market continues to fall it will make things even worse.

There's a reason tech companies are moving to Reno and even Boise right now. Commiefornia is a free market albatross.

I've been telling friends for a long time that in places like New York City and major cities of California, for a married couple with no kids, a working yearly household income should be around $250k just to live with respectable standards. If you want to live well, you need to bring in around $500k/year and in order to live incredibly comfortable, aim for about $750k/year.

Remember, this is just assuming it's 2 people living together. Add kids to it and it changes drastically.

Yet, making that much and living in a city with bad roads, a horrible subway, and high taxes? What’s the point or benefits of living in said place?

lol, no its not. You're telling me 117K a year for a single person is garbage? haha lol.

Please refer to my classification scheme regarding the way getbiggers classify income.

SF1900's classification scheme to describe socioeconomic status based on income per year. Data was collected from Getbig.com

Source:

1900, SF (2015). An alternative classification scheme to describe socioeconomic status. Journal of Getbig.com, 14, 150-190. doi: schmoe

>$100,000 - homeless

$101,000 - $450,000 = poor

$451,000 - $750,000 = low middle class

$751,000 - $1,000,000 - middle class

$1,100,000 - $5,000,000 = upper middle class

$5,100,000 - $50,000,000 = rich

$51,000,000+ = super wealthy

Hawaii is the most expensive State in the country. With my girlfriend and me, and taking care of two kids, our combined income is considerably less than $200,000/yr but we live pretty comfortably. It all depends on your lifestyle.

The average household (not just individual) income on Oahu is just under $69,000/yr and the average house is over $750,000. We have our problems like most States but the majority live nice comfortable lives without having to be deep in the six figures.

Not at all. Then again, respectable standards are subjective to the beholder.

You obviously don’t know anything about the Bay Area.  Homes have been overpriced there for 20 years.  There is no bubble in real estate. Just a lot of people and not enough space to build new homes.
