Any way to kill caffeine?
« on: December 14, 2018, 07:43:36 PM »
I like to workout in the morning and do work in the afternoon/evening. Lately I've been drinking coffee (<1cup) between 3-7 pm and sometimes I can get to bed just fine by 11 or so, sometimes I can't. Even when I fall asleep fine, I still feel the sleep isn't very restful.

Does anyone know a way to nullify the stimulating effect or do I just need to change my habits?

Back in the day, Vit C and ZMA taken a little before bed was the recommendation for dealing with Caffeine and Ephedrine jitters. Caffeine timing can be tricky, as you mentioned sometimes you time it right, sometimes you don't. You really want 6-8 hrs between last dose and sleeping  to be safe.

Strange, because the body usually adapts to the caffeine intake.  I have a friend and his parents are 'off the boat' Italians... they would routinely drink 2 cups of espresso after a late dinner and sleep just fine.

If you're not going to curtail your late day caffeine intake, the vit C, ZMA and some melatonin couldn't hurt.  Melatonin gives me nightmares, so I avoid it.  Eating some simple carbs would probably help.  Sometimes I take a half dose of Benadryl before bed, it takes the edge off.  I've also noticed that low dose (100-200mg) ibuprofen takes away minor aches and pains and promotes a more restful sleep.  If I do take an OTC sleep aid (diphenhydramine), I only take 1/2 the recommended dose.  Any more and I still feel groggy the next day.

If you drink coffee regularly you build up a tolerance to it.

So drink it often.  Have several cups each day.

Vitamin C helps take the edge off. Drink some orange juice, and maybe use it to wash down a few kava kava capsules.

A too high dose of vitamine C can interupt some peoples sleep... better to take vitamine pills in the morning instead of in the evening

More true for the B vitamins than others.

Curcumin apparently lessens the effect of caffeine. It's also a good anti-inflammatory.

Change habits first, or drink a decaf. If you cant, get a good sleep supplement that works. Redcon1's "Fade Out" works great when I need it.
Has all the good stuff, GABA, Phenibut, Melatonin, L-Theanine, Valerian, etc. Just dont use it every night and depend on it (like I do).
