That guy has more testosterone than a whole college campus of "men" today.
Didn’t he die of lung cancer?

Yes, cigarette smoking is long-term physically very bad for you.

But I think western society today would be a bit saner and everyday life less fraught,if people still cheerfully sat down with strangers or political opponents and broke the ice with some booze and tobacco.

FWIW, smoking is still huge in China.

I never even thought about the drop in smoking possibly being the cause of all the uptight people in the world now.

Last time I went in for joint pain the doc just hooked me up to the deca IV and threw in an Rx for Winstrol for the water retention.

It's crazy. I mean, there is just too much evidence to deny the negative impact of cigarette smoking.  ??? ???

SF, these people are morons plain and simple. There is ample evidence for the detrimental effects of smoking and tobacco. However, I trust evolution and may these idiots die off long before producing offspring. Mother nature will work trust me on this.

I assume you are putting me in this group.  I don't smoke and never have I am just annoyed at the constant barrage of ads demonizing smoking when there are much worse habits that seem to be promoted by the same advertisers.

There are many things that people do for enjoyment that are not good for them. I've never smoked and encourage others not to as well but for many, it's a way to deal with stress, a real killer. I would rather have them smoke cigs that drink liquor or smoke pot. When you look at the damage done by alcohol to themselves and to society it doesn't compare to the damage done by smoking.

It's all about abuse versus moderation. I would argue that the most abused substance in our society is food. Heart disease is the number one killer and so much of that is related to just being fat and eating too much.

What are you going to do? Pass a law? All you can do is just educate people and let them decide. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you. A guy I worked with just had a near-death experience related to decades of smoking. The doctor told him he absolutely has to stop smoking as he's at a stage where it's killing him. He stopped for about two weeks but just the other day I saw him outside puffing away. I looked at him and shook my head. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "I'm going to die anyway."

He's near 70 years old but looks older. Very skinny and frail looking. I guess he figures he doesn't have much longer on this earth and how much extra years would quitting smoking add. Years, that he doesn't seem to be enjoying now since he has a host of health problems. I guess he might as well do one of the few things he has left to enjoy in life.

I’m glad to say that I never tried a cigarette or drugs, and have maybe had 5-6 beers in the last one year time period. Of course I could still die at any moment, but at least I’m reducing the chances somewhat.

I know 3 people, 2 between 55-60 years old and 1 around 80 that got lung cancer. They all smoked for well over 30 years. All still alive. One of them is my uncle and he had half of his lungs removed. The other 2 are undergoing treatment.

Nicotine is extremely addictive.

Some people are addicts and can't quit.

My sister can't handle her anxieties without smoking.
