who is responsible for government shutdown
« on: January 21, 2019, 01:22:25 PM »
been reading about this online and i'm reading that polls show most americans blame president for current shutdown which apparently goes against the trend for previous shutdowns.

apparently in one poll even trump voters blamed trump for the shutdown...

what is the truth on this?

Here are the recent survey results:

A Quinnipiac University poll taken Jan. 9-13 found that 56 percent of Americans blame Trump and Republicans for the shutdown, while 36 percent fault Democrats.
A Washington Post/ABC poll taken Jan. 8-11 found that 53 percent say Trump and congressional Republicans are to blame, while 29 percent point the finger at Democrats.
A CNN poll taken Jan. 10-11 showed that 55 percent blame Trump and Republicans, while 32 percent blame Democrats.
A CBS/YouGov survey taken Jan. 9-11 said 47 percent blame Trump, 3 percent blame Republicans, and 30 percent blame Democrats.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll taken January 1-7 found that 51 percent blame Trump, 7 percent blame Republicans and 32 percent fault Democrats.
A Politico/Morning Consult poll from Jan. 4-6 found that 47 percent blame Trump, 5 percent blame Republicans and 33 percent blame Democrats.

is the world ever going to see this much vaunted magnificent wall?

i'm hearing trump has been talking about downgrading it to a "steel barrier in strategic places" or something or other.

what happened to the mexicans? have they welched on their promise to pay for it?

The dirty little secret is that it’s functioning more efficiently during the shutdown as most government agency employees are dead weight.

https://dailycaller.com/2019/01/14/smoke-out-resistance/

On an average day, roughly 15 percent of the employees around me are exceptional patriots serving their country. I wish I could give competitive salaries to them and no one else. But 80 percent feel no pressure to produce results. If they don’t feel like doing what they are told, they don’t.

Why would they? We can’t fire them. They avoid attention, plan their weekend, schedule vacation, their second job, their next position — some do this in the same position for more than a decade

If you’ve ever been to a government office in the United States, you would see that it’s not exactly the best and the brightest working there more like the opposite.

This. I worked with Gov employees for 20 years in the Military. You had some who were great and would go as hard as you. But most were there to collect a check and did only enough to not get noticed. And their was literally nothing you could do.

There are many people and businesses that benefit from a bloated oversized government. So, there will be no shortage of voices claiming that the sky is falling.

Democrats now are the ones prolonging the shutdown

it's not a problem. according to TL having the government shut down is economically a good thing for the country.

That’s an oversimplification. The classic symptoms of an oversized government, overregulation and high taxation do have an adverse effect on the economy.

FAKE NEWS

Republican Controlled Congress passed a continuing  resolution to fund the government in December 2018.
Trump told Mitch he would sign it and then he went back on his word.

If McConnell brought this to a vote tomorrow morning there would likely be enough Republicans who would vote to override Trumps veto

McConnell said on January 15th that he would not let this happen (i.e. would not allow the Senate to vote to override a Trump veto)

If the votes exists and McConnell won't allow the vote to happen then Republicans are to blame

And of course Trump is primarily to blame since he's holding the government hostage to extort money the he promised to get from Mexico (idiot promise but that's what he said many times)

And you won’t be. Most of the agencies that are shutdown wouldn’t be missed if they never returned.

why would they give Trump money for his wall

here are some facts you may have forgotten

1. Republican had two years and didn't fund his stupid and worthless wall

2. Trump said Mexico would pay for it

3. Trump said He would take responsibility for the shutdown
