ACADEMY AWARD GUESSES
« on: January 22, 2019, 09:31:13 AM »
Most GetBiggers seem to hate Hollywood and all that it stands for so I'm guessing that those same GetBiggers might be interested enough to offer some adverse comments concerning the Academy Award winners ..... realizing that 'adversity' in Hollywood is good for Hollywood.

And it could prove to be interesting to discover if there is one GetBigger who can accurately predict the eventual outcome for Best Picture, Best Leading Actress , and Best Leading Actor .... and other Best of Hollywood non-sense if there is any interest.

Here are my un-educated Academy Award guesses and related comments .....

Best Picture Contenders:

“Black Panther”.... i am possibly the only movie fan in the universe who disliked this motion picture and I am definitely noy a racist ....  but I am also not a superhero movie fan. I packed up my popcorn and diet soda and departed the theater during that waterfall fight scene.

“BlacKkKlansman”... I gotta dmit that this was one of my favorite movies I've seen this year and I thought that the two detective charactors were AA material, but I doubt it will win the Oscar. I also like the play in words/letters (KKK) in the title.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” ..;. In my humble opinion this is the WINNER even though I never was a Freddy Mercury fan nor havE I ever spent a dollar on a Queen recording. (But I can join in if you decide to sing "We Are Gonna Rock You" or  "We are the Champions". Two songs I have difficulty in 'unthinking' upon hearing either  of them.)

“The Favourite”  ... Great movie if you're into English history lessons. as it a true depiction of Queen Anne though? Probably will get the Best Dressed Award.

“Green Book” ... Didn't see it but Hollywoodites rate it highly so it's possible to be the winner.

“Roma” .... Saw the first 20 minutes or so and got bored to death and fell asleep, but this boring flick appears to be in high contention. I call it a cure for insomnia!

“A Star Is Born” ... Godd movie but I ain't no Ga-Ga fan.

“Vice” ... Good movie if you're into politics.

Next up ... Best Actor ...

Not against movies and entertainment but against Hollywood propaganda and pedophilia support. How many here support pedophilia/Netflix by paying them support money every month?

Why You Should Cancel Netflix

As competitors to Netflix continue to appear over the horizon, Netflix made its market position clear in a company-wide letter.

As CNBC reported, “It’s newer forms of entertainment — such as Fortnite and Google’s YouTube — that got shout-outs in the company’s letter as stronger competitors.”

But if there is a shred of morality and providence left in America, Netflix may not even be able to see the true threat to their success is themselves.

Netflix has already been scrutinized for allowing child pornography on their service.

The Argentinian film “Desire” depicted two ten-year-old girls in a sexual situation.

Also, there is the extremely perverse Netflix animated series Big Mouth.

As the Freedom Project summed up “…the profanity and grotesque immorality and perversion make the show self-evidently unsuitable for children. On the other hand, the constant portrayal of young children’s genitals and similar imagery make it self-evidently unsuitable for adults. In short, it is unsuitable for anyone but the most depraved minds. The real goal appears to be to corrupt and sexualize more young children.”

Now, Netflix has entered what some would regard as infuriating uncharted territory with the Netflix Original series Dancing Queen, a series that focuses on a dance teacher from Texas who walks a fine line in promoting the normalization of young children and the drag queen lifestyle.

While the series doesn’t go as far as the lunacy of Michael Alig and the exploitation of Desmond the Amazing, Dancing Queen carefully introduces the relationship between Drag Queens and children to a larger audience.

And with the popularity of Desmond and the marketing for the show, Dancing Queen is either a horribly timed coincidence or is pushing the same subversive narrative found in other Netflix shows.

So with so many cut the cord offerings on the table, cutting off your Netflix subscription should be the first thing any red-blooded American with any sense of decency does posthaste.

It has never been easier to be a part of the problem if you continue to subscribe or the solution if you cancel today.

MEGA ...I took you advice years ago and quit NetFlix when they first raised their monthly rate ... and never went back. But someone in the house inserted a small contraption into the back-side of this huge wall mounted TV contraption so ..... now we get hundred's of channels just about for free.

But .. Still I have no idea how to turn it on as it takes two remotes to do so, and I am completely lost with just one remote as it controlls just about every entertainment 'appliance' in the house.

So what's your take on the Academy Awards?

Black Panther was entertaining but really, best picture?  It's a crap disposable movie. Bohemian Rhapsody was a little corny for my taste. I saw Freddy Mercury and Queen back in the day. He is arguably the best singer in Rock period. It's been a bad couple of years for movies. Just sad.

Lead Actor:

Christian Bale, “Vice”  ..... Winner, winner ... chicken dinner. And the make-up department sould also get that chicken dinner!

Bradley Cooper, “A Star Is Born” ... I thought he did a great job,. Even better than Lady Gaga, but he's up against a pprime contender. Maybe even two!

Willem Dafoe, “At Eternity’s Gate” ... Always a great actor, but I have yet to see this movie.

Rami Malek, “Bohemian Rhapsody” ... This actor was phenominal and I won't be surprised if he proves me wrong about Bale  and wins that Oscar. If that should happen .. I'll owe him a chicken dinner.

Viggo Mortensen, “Green Book”  ... Did not see it but I understand he said a No-No which could possibly place him out of contention.

So the envelope please ..goes to  Bale ... or possibly Malek!

That's a tough one!

OLDTIMER, I HATE to admit this but I ain't t too much of a musical fan and if you asked me who sang "Rock You" or "Champions" before this movie was released, I'd have absolutely no idea.

Same for Freddie Mercury!  "Who  the hell is/was Freddie Mercury!?"

I am a complete retard when it comes to musical stuff like this, but if I ever meet up with ya, I'll join you in singing either one of those songs at the nearest Kareoke Bar like the one I never sing at in Ellis Island.

So what's your take on the Academy Awards?

STUNT, I haven't watched the Academy awards for years because it's way too trendy, preachy, leftist, hateful, agenda-driven, and phony for me to relate to and don't watch the current propaganda that is being honored anyway. I understand storytelling fairly well as it relates to movies and tv as well as the entire film-making process including cinematography, editing, directing, even down to multiple special effects programs but would like to see alternative industry emerge that is not run by people that are for free speech and idea exchange unless it contradicts their own and therefore must be de-platformed, banned, and excoriated with leftist 'salt the earth' tactics including banning hosting providers(Godaddy), banning from social media(Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, ect...), banning from banks(Paypal), banning from crowd funding(Patreon, Indigogo), content management banning(Wordpress), doxxing, ect..................   The enemy awarding itself are bread and circuses that I'll pass up.

Most avid GetBiggers are gonna hate me for this best actress one, but fire away anyway and be content!

Lead Actress Contenders:

Yalitza Aparicio, “Roma”  ... No fair guessing this because I fell asleep within 20 minutes or so. Watch this one if you need a long nap.

Glenn Close, “The Wife” ... Great actress so I won't be surprised if she wins it, but I ain't seen it yet.

Olivia Colman, “The Favourite”... Great acting job if I can figure which character she was , but all those actors in this historical movie did great jobs, so I feel content in what I've already said. But not a winner ... yet!

Lady Gaga, “A Star Is Born”... I can't explain why but I'm definitely not a Ga-Ga fan and have no ear for her singing expertise and can only say that she did OK handling this ancient movie role. But "OK' don't get no Oscars! But Hollywod thinks somewhat differently than I do,

Melissa McCarthy, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”.... Hate me for saying this but .... I'd like to see her win it. Mainly because she has stepped out of character and did a damn  good job by doing so.

I'll go out on that proverbial limb and pick Glenn Close

MEGA, I like what ya said and how ya said it but would most likely debate with some of it if we ever had a chance to discuss it over a beer or two with a couple of shots of Tequila for added emphasis.

I could talk Hollywood movie stuff for endless hours after a couple of cocktails ... some of which would initiate law-suits by too damn many in La-La Land.

It appears that you have had some experience or interest within the making of the motion picture business which I and possibly others would find to be of interest.

Would be good to hear your side of the Hollywood story.

And I should say that what you said above could give a decent script writer a good idea of an interesting story to put on screen.

Hollywood definitely needs new ideas.  And it appears that you have more than just a couple.

HIPO, Not all, but most.

And this may be a good yime to mention the Cohen brothers .. THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS' or whatever Buster's last name was.

Some old timers were expecting some awards for this one afew months back but as far as I  know ... it got nada.

And after seeing it ... I think I understand why!

It consisted of six, non-related short films ... five of which made no sense to me which has caused a number a family arguments because too many family members liked it way too much. And they are fighters when it comes to motion picture discussion time!

And if that was the purpose/intent of this Coen brothers' production ... it was a major success.

And it seems that a further discussion of this motion picture will cause further argument on this GetBig Board, so let me take a few moments to scratch my head and devise an argument on just why this here movie neve did get no reward.

I’ll sum up.

Best Picture: Black Panther or Blackkklansman or one of the other black films to keep protests and faux outrage to a minimum.
Best Actor: Rami Malek to show how Hollywood rewards diversity by giving this to a gay Muslim.
Best Actress: Yalitza Aparicio to show racist Trump how valuable Mexican immigrants are.

STUNT, you are a congenial fellow but, as far as Hollywood, it will be more gadfly than threat when there are real alternative distribution methods that will allow filmmakers to unapologetically compete with Hollywood's narrative without being financially and socially incinerated. There are plenty of successful Youtube channels that compete against mainstream narrative(despite massive censorship, demonetization, and banning) and the same thing can be done with movies but distribution is the key. It would have to start out with a company with a loyal following like Infowars selling very well crafted but low budget movie DVDs to a built-in audience and branching out from there.

It's irrelevant that "Hollywood definitely needs new ideas" unless by "Hollywood" you mean "The entertainment industry" because an increasing number of filmmakers will not want to be a part of or conform to Hollywood and won't have to unless, of course, the internet eventually suffers Communist Chinese-style censorship from the left and there have already been strong moves in that direction, but the war is far from over...

ROBO, Interesting that you mentioned B movie among tour favorite.

I might agree with ya if you would nention the B movies that you favor.

At one time I considered THESQUARE to be a B movie, but it went on and won the Palm de Or at Cannes a year ot two ago.

I only watched it due to family envolvement and even then considered it to be a grade of B.

How does a movie get classified to be a B?

Actually I don't have the official reason of why or how!

Qft.

While the Mexican maid "modern slavery in Latin America" serves as a good example of the vast majority of  naïve/good hearted extremely poor people that tries to enter illegally to the USA,  that actress didn't have enough dialog to even be nominated for an award .....

Black Panther will win best picture because of the rioting if it doesn't win.  Christian Bale best actor as it is a lefty's wet dream to shit on Republican politicians on the silver screen.  Whoever wins this year it will be better than last year where truly awful movies cleaning up at the awards shows.

HUMBLE, I, mtself, will riot if the BLACK PANTHER movie wins.

Is a riot of one possible?

But to even out this so called scale, I''ll be as happy as a flying pig in a tuxedo if BLACKKKLANSMEN (notice the three K's?) should win.

BTW... If you drive to Malibu via Topanga Canyon, you'll see that flying pig.

Tell him I sent ya!
