Have you been dead before? How do you know this about the afterlife?

Why would people spend eternity sitting on clouds, is this belief based on Sunday morning comics?

Thanks

Try critical thinking.  I'll let you figure it out.

"I believe comics are our last link to an ancient way of passing on history.  The Egyptians drew on the walls. Countries all over the world still pass on knowledge through pictorial forms. I believe comics are a form of history that someone, somewhere felt or experienced." - Elijah Price

Interesting. Your "proof" is just as concrete as the faith systems others cling to.

But your belief is better because you know when you die there's nothing.

Lol you're just as obnoxious as the people you despise.

Come on, Mr Anabolic, you believe faith in God is a mental illness?

Mostly, yes.  Religion/faith was created to keep people docile and obedient.  It's a control mechanism.  Also it keeps human beings hopeful that if they behave themselves while alive, they'll go to some place where their souls will live forever when they die.  Dogma and propaganda are very powerful things.

World wars, millions killed, plagues, diseases, young children dying of cancer and other horrible things?  There is NO god.

How does anything you just said make faith in God a mental illness?

Is this guy mentally ill, for example?

Francis Sellers Collins (born April 14, 1950) is an American physician-geneticist who discovered the genes associated with a number of diseases and led the Human Genome Project. He is director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, United States.

By graduate school Collins considered himself an atheist. However, a conversation with a hospital patient led him to question his lack of religious views, and he investigated various faiths. He familiarized himself with the evidence for and against God in cosmology, and on the recommendation of a Methodist minister used Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis as a foundation to develop his religious views. He eventually came to a conclusion and became a Christian after a "leap of faith" when he saw a frozen waterfall during a hike on a fall afternoon. He has described himself as a "serious Christian".

Lots like him.  Doesn't prove anything.  A frozen waterfall is proof there is a god?  How?

The big question I have is... why would you (and others) become so adversarial and offended by what I believe?

Not offended at all.  Sorry I gave you that impression!  It's just that I've read many of your posts and was a little surprised to see that you might believe faith in God is a mental illness.  That's all.

There are plenty of well educated intellectuals who believe they are going to heaven.  Mental illness is not restricted to folks from Kentucky who handle rattlesnakes during church gatherings.  If someone believes the things in the bible really happened and are 100% true, their sanity is in question.  Someone may be fully functional in life and act normal most of the time, but still can be mentally ill.

Edomite Adam and Eve

Hebrew Adam and Eve

If Adam and Eve were so good looking/smart/jacked/athletic then how come the rest of humanity are so inferior to those original specimens? :-\

Serious answer would be; accumulative defective genes

Inbreeding ye, but at start there'd be too few bad mutations to have a negative effect. I'll leave the rest to Wiggs for the more indepth info

I believe I answered it.  If they wholeheartedly believe the bible is true and they are DEFINITELY going to heaven for believing in such nonsense... yes, mentally ill.

And now... burn me at the stake?... stone me to death?

Got it.  You believe all intelligent, educated, industrious, honest, generous people are by default mentally ill simply for believing the Bible.

No burning you at the stake.  I believe you are free to believe anything you want.

Yes.  The person could have all those qualities, be a good person and still be mentally ill.  Religious beliefs and convictions are psychologically embedded, usually through fear of/from something (parental discipline, traumatic experience, dying, going to hell, etc).  I've met many so-called Christians (believe they are saved) during my life.  As they age they tend to stray away from, even abandon their beliefs as time goes by.  Gee, I wonder why?
