Even these "educated specialists" don't agree with each other. ::)

Do they ever? There are various ways to look at anything and there can be bias for and against climate change. Also, there are many ways to interpret the recent drought and resulting fires which have had much of California looking like hell on earth the last couple of years. That the climate is changing should be indisputable, why this is happening is open for discussion. The possibility of human's responsibility to it should not be the political football it has become.

I'm not a meteorologist, nor do I have a background in weather science. So, like most folks in the world, I rely on what these educated specialists have to say about global warming.

Seventeen of the 18 warmest years in the 136-year record all have occurred since 2001, with the exception of 1998. The year 2016 ranks as the warmest on record. (Source: NASA/GISS). This research is broadly consistent with similar constructions prepared by the Climatic Research Unit and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Check this interactive world map out by moving the scroll at the bottom . It's interesting to see how global warming has escalated in recent years.  The time series shows the five-year average variation of global surface temperatures. Dark blue indicates areas cooler than average. Dark red indicates areas warmer than average.

https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/global-temperature/

Specialists???  Based on what you've said about where you live, I'll cut you slack in thinking your local weather people are good at their job since there's not as many conditions to choose from.  Pretty much have a 50-50 shot in the west.

Ask anyone in the northeast and midwest how much stock they put into the previous days weather report, and you'll understand why so many question this shit.

One thing we have in common Prime, is we look shit up when we are curious.  Your stat about 136 years made me google the following things:

Q1) When was the Ice Age?         A1) 2.4 million years ago
Q2) When was the dinosaur age? A2) 66 million years ago

Stop and think about that for a minute.  Do you still think things aren't cyclical?

Here's some irony for ya.  The two biggest do whatever you want, we care about humanity, we care about the environment states are Cali and NY, which just so happen to have the some of the nation's largest air quality problems.

If there is such a thing as global warming it's because of the west coast and upper east coast.  Look at weather patterns when you're watching the weather.  Air streams push up or down from the coasts inward and outward depending on where you're at >:(.  So all the shit these fuckers are putting into the air as the largest populated cities in the country is affecting all of us, and yet they are the ones pushing this bullshit narrative.... Damn hypocrites!

Where did I say that I didn't think climate changes (things) are cyclical? Of course they are.

Two thoughts:

1. Being an educated specialist doesn't guarantee you're right all the time.

2. Dinosaurs were on Earth for between 165 & 177 million years from the mid Triassic to the end. The Pleistocene Epoch (Ice Age) is typically defined as the time period that began about 2.6 million years ago and lasted until about 11,700 years ago. Dinosaurs enjoyed a warm climate with an average of 73 °F. Earth's current average temperature is somewhere between 57 and 60 °F. During the ice age it was probably about 45 to 48 °F. Not sure why how long ago those ages were is as important as how fast and how much the earth's temperature is currently increasing.

I apologize.  I looked back and you are right, you did not say it wasn't.  Someone else made the point that it was cyclical, and I assumed your response I quoted was trying to dispute that.  You know what they say about the word assume......however, I just made an ass out of me.  Sorry!

My point with the ages is that it was warm 66 million years ago, during the dinosaur age.  Then roughly 62.5 million years later it was the Ice Age.   While avg. temps may have increased (actually the last 3 summers here have been cooler than normal, but to your side of the debate the winters have been the same if not slightly milder.. until these last couple weeks at least).  Who's to say another Ice Age isn't in the future?

Enjoy your posts.  Sorry for putting words into your mouth.

BTW, I should have known better than to bring up ancient history with an old dude.  You obviously know more about the two ages than I do, and have better recall it seems. :D

Why would anyone think that the climate would stay completely constant until eternity? Of course there’s going to be some change.

You don't need to apologize. Written communications are often misread or misunderstood. This is why having a discussion face to face is so much better. I have a habit of leaving letters out of a word or leaving the whole word out which I sometimes fail to catch  no matter how many times I edit my posts.

While recently reading about the earth's climate, I discovered that according to one article, we are still in the last ice age.

If people didn't pump water into CA, the place would be a desert wasteland. The "drought" is normal weather cycle. The recent fires are the democrat government fault, if they would learn to manage our taxpayer dollars better, maybe they could have cleared the underbrush and helped control the situation. But they would rather give millions upon millions of our dollars to illegal immigrants that don't belong here, drug addicts that shit and piss in the street, a train to nowhere that nobody asked for and line their own pockets than take care of their responsibilities to the people that elected them.

Since you rightfully have an opinion on pretty much everything government does, you should consider running for the California state legislature. I think it is a bit odd that you exclusively blame democrats and not government in general for California's woes. Maybe this is because in California democrats have the super majority in both the house and the senate. -Guess there's nothing left for you few republicans to do but move out of state. Beating a dead horse must get old. :)

California had the most wild fires, but it isn't the only state that was burning up last year and the year before. BTW, I am in favor of better forest management. You should see the forest floors in Bavaria, Germany,  they look clean as a whistle...no underbrush.

Global warming is real. I am fairly sure man does not have the ability to end it. It's a comparatively tiny aspect of the benefits of investing in climate control, but we do have the know how to improve air quality. We've done it already. Back in the 1900's building were heated with coal burning furnaces. In Eastern cities where this was most prevalent, people lived in a cloud of soot which clung to everything. Los Angeles, CA suffers poor and harmful air quality known as smog. These are examples of things over which we have some control. However, doing them won't stop global warming. It may reduce the pace at which global warming is accelerating.

You're right Prime online communication often is.  However, the problem is when people just consider moving on and not acknowledging their mistakes when it's pointed out as the air being clear.  I fucked up, and I my feeling is an apology was necessary for making a mistake.  I wish more people realized that's an important part of having a healthy conversation, and not letting a "wall" come between us. 8)

The biggest problem in our country is not racism or bigotry.  It's that everyone is yelling about what they think someone is without acknowledging their differences, and just talking about them.

Your pun is intended and funny.  Honestly, I was being serious. Sometimes the way to fix things is to get right in to the thick of it and shake it up. The whole west coast has a political imbalance weighted by tons of democrats. We libs aren't going away, but conservatives should step up to the plate. It's much more likely for two sides to find compromise when they are evenly matched, unless it's the Hatfields and the McCoys. Then both sides lose. ;D

The dems have this state solidly with all the free shit they promise people, then tax the fuck out of working people. I just saw 2.6 billion being spent to build a stadium for the rams. Where do you suppose that money came from? What about CA's train to nowhere? Anywhere from 60-77 BILLION dollars. For what? Then my car registration skyrockets because we have no money to fix roads? LMAO, fucking corrupt pieces of shit in Suckremento.

In all fairness to him, if you read the thread he did that in response to me googling the ice age and dinosaur age to illustrate the cyclical nature of the climate

I was being a smart-ass, and he one-upped me on the subject matter discussed.  ;D

If I said or implied these things are facts, I misspoke.

Sometimes, one has to go with the best information available. Climatology, paleontology and anthropology aren't exact sciences. I thought every knew that. It is even debatable whether or not anthropology is scientific or holistic.

"Anthropology has origins in the natural sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences."

"...Paleontology is the study of what fossils tell us about the ecologies of the past, about evolution, and about our place, as humans, in the world."

Climatology is the science that deals with climates and their phenomena

I've come to the conclusion that it's easier to let folks believe what they want, because most are so closed-minded they will never accept or learn anything new. Sad!

I was waiting for someone to use the recent cold snap as proof that the climate isn't warming. Oregon is having one of the mildest winters I can remember over the last 50 years. Were also (for us) having a bit of a drought. Thanks to likely El Niño.

Better crank up that heater, Prime😆

https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/seattle-can-record-snowiest-winter-in-a-decade-by-midweek-as-unusual-train-of-snowstorms-continues/70007392

Bitter cold will have all residents in the Northwest shivering on Saturday night as temperatures plunge 15-20 degrees Fahrenheit below normal, even along the coast.

Some record lows will be challenged, including in Seattle and Portland.

LOL. This has a habit of happening. I remember Al Gore was supposed to give a speech on global warming
on a day of record cold weather.

As an aside, Prime, talk to us, Man. Some of us here on the north east might be able to give you some tips on how to deal with heavy snow.
