A series of prominent Democrats demanded Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's resignation on Friday, excoriating him for appearing in a racist yearbook photo showing one person dressed in blackface and another in the KKK's signature white hood and robes.

The calls came from a number of 2020 presidential candidates, members of Congress and prominent liberal organizations, all of whom said Northam's apology on the issue was not enough. The NAACP also called for Northam to leave office. Those calls, however, were not echoed by Virginia Democrats, including Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Both said they were shocked and offended by the photos, but in separate statements both said it was time for the governor to think about what comes next for him and to listen to those he has offended. Northam, for his part, has vowed to finish his one and only term as Virginia governor, issuing a video statement on Friday evening where he apologized but pledged to remain in office.

After first admitting and apologizing for appearing in a racist photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook, Gov. Ralph Northam has been calling Democratic leaders saying he isn't one of the two men in the image.

Virginia Sen. Louise Lucas who represents Portsmouth said Northam called her this morning and said he wouldn’t step down.

“I’m not going to resign because it’s not me in that photo,” Lucas said, recalling what he told her.

EVMS President Richard Homan, MD, issued a statement Saturday saying the school shares "the outrage, alarm and sadness voiced by our alumni, the press and many on social media."

Homan, who is also the dean of EVMS' School of Medicine, added that the photo is "absolutely antithetical to the principles, morals and values we hold and espouse of our educational and research institution and our professions."

Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is looking at the man in the mirror today, and the disgraced politician is a far cry from the progressive hero he was earlier this week.

While the opportunistic politicians scamper like rats from the scene, media activists are taking a stand for their man, deflecting and reshaping the narrative in a desperate attempt to save their hero.

The media’s love for Northam was earned. It started on a radio show as he mused about ending the life of unborn children in the third trimester if they were accidentally born alive mid-abortion.

He's totally cowering after they gave him a stern warning that this is a time for some tough self-reflection, and an opportunity for growth. 

This guy actually ran a campaign where one of his ads portrayed the opponent (whom he defeated) as a racist.  The ad showed a car (suggesting the driver was the opponent) driving down the streets with the Confederate flag hanging off the trunk.

That was the ad I was referring to in my post above.  I just saw a snippet of it.  I thought it was the trunk of a car, and it's a truck bed instead.
