Goodmorrow,

I have no clue what you mean by "Liberal Arts" degree. In order for one to be a Psychologist one must at least have a four year degree in PSYCHOLOGY!!!! That is NOT a Liberal Arts degree.

STAY POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not what I mean by a Liberal Arts degree. It what 'College Ranker' means. http://www.collegeranker.com/liberal-arts-degree-jobs/

I must have missed out on that while I was only lurking for a couple years....who is Mr. Safety Fat, and how did that come about?  Thread link, and post # to check out is good enough if you have it.

Too much effort to look up Basile's post were he said: "It's safety fat." However it was quite awhile back and ever since then his explanation has hounded him.

So he invented a new term for being tubby, and the world's greatest bicep machine known to man?  All this from one guy?  And he's broke???  There is no justice in this world! >:(

The two on page 5 literally made my eyes start watering from laughing, and I still am chucklin ;D

Thanks for the laugh!  I'd save them for if I ever needed a good laugh, but if I ever have to take my laptop in I would not be able to explain that!!!

When Basile posted that term, I could have sworn I'd heard it before. Maybe I'm senile or maybe he didn't invent safety fat. Folks say he lives in a warehouse. Question is, is it one of the those upscale conversions to condos or is it an over-sized storage shed? The bicep supination machine looks real. Not sure anyone ever bought one though.

Prime,

I'm not going to quote you, because hopefully this post bumps the thread to a new page so I never have to see those pics again.

BTW...why do you have those saved to be able to reply-post them so quickly? ???

I know you are older, but surely you are not inspired by the V.B. :-\

Vince has a damn good physique actually.  Is this a fairly current photo?

If it is he has a very fine physique for 77.

He's much larger now.  A more up to date photo is in one of the threads about hypertrophy.

Republicans/conservatives are losing the cultural "war" and will continue to do so.

Colleges and universities and Fortune 500 companies are overwhelmingly liberal and control the narrative. As the old school republicans die out and millennials continue to take over, republicans/conservatives are going to really be screwed. They better prepare for changing their values and beliefs!!

I agree with and this is been the plan for the 30-40 years. Our university systems have totally degraded any good morals, values and beliefs. Nice going

Factory workers are becoming obsolete. I'm not sure we need more of them standing in the unemployment line. Many people don't have pensions regardless of their occupation.  building trades people are often subcontractors and as such, it is unlikely they have pensions. Just curious, are you college educated? You talk like you know how things work in a college environment. This usually requires first hand experience.
Yes I am college educated.

Many carpenters, plumbers, electricians etc. belong to unions and have pensions. The companies they work for does subcontracting work however they have pensions. It makes no difference if they are working for a contractor or subcontractor. What makes you think they would not have pensions? Lone subcontractors and handy men might not have pensions but many guys that do commercial work for small to medium sized businesses do.

I know electricians with huge homes and even vacation homes! Those guys are making good money.

Some of these guys can retire at 60 but work till 65 so they get an even bigger pension. They are all set and can have a comfortable retirement. Many people with college degrees on the other hand can't. Now granted trade work exacts a heavy toll on their bodies whereas people sitting behind a desk might not have the same amount of joint wear etc. Then again the guys working in trades are usually in decent shape because they move around a lot more. The guys sitting behind desks can become fat and get heart attacks etc.

Here’s the thing, Howard. Most who start out in the construction trades know and realize they can’t keep up the labor work throughout their careers but there are advancements such as site management, superintendents, etc then there are those that wind up getting their contractors license to start their own businesses. I spent almost 20 years total in the commercial roofing industry including obtaining my C-39. The opportunities are endless
Exactly. The companies know their older workers can't be out in the field doing manual labor but have more experience. So they are used for estimating, project management etc. They may do some odd work here and there if needed but the majority of work is passed off to the younger guys.

Good post.  Not everyone can be the chief.

Yes, crawling around installing ductwork or piping is no fun.  It's the grunt work just like doing bank reconciliations and comparing invoices is for rookie accountants and preparing/researching briefs is for rookie lawyers.

Granted, doing tedious bank recs is not physically demanding but will drive you nuts if you did it for 30 years.

The answer to this is becoming the boss someday.  The apprentice electrician becomes the master and has 10 techs doing the grunt work.  The rookie accountant becomes the partner with 5 junior doing the crap work while he meets with the client.

Staying a grunt is for those who like being a grunt or have reached their limit of talent.

If you are a one-man show (your buddy Bix?) you will always have to do the grunt work.  Some people are not good at delegating and managing.

Not everybody can do it but that goes for anything.
Some older trades guys are still in great shape and actually enjoy work in the field sometimes as a break. They may be supers on a job site and then do work on the side as well so they don't lose touch of their skills. It is also exercise in a way to help them stay healthier. It is no different than an older ex bodybuilder going to the gym to try and stay in decent shape.
