My best years are decades ago, so nope - I am not anywhere near anyone here.  I was only good on the squat and leg press (the inverted type, not the stupid sled thing they use now).   I could deadlift well enough but bench press was beyond me.

I am a seasoned citizen now and have zero doubts that I am nothing compared to such as Wes and a few others here. It's okay. But depressing... ;)

:D Never heard that one b4.  I'm going to start using that when I hit 50+

I can flat bench 455 natty at 240,incline bench 405 for a couple ,curl 200 for 5,military 275 barbell for 5 and dB shoulder press 120s for 6 and dip with 145 lbs for 10-12.So I’m betting natty wise I’m in the top 3.

At 40 years old,natural since 27 and 6’1.5”.

Squat? Dead?

Haven’t done squats since late 20s,always felt awkward and uncomfortable to me So was never a good squatter.

Dead’s I have pulled 700 but lower back keeps those away as well.

I have a rule now and it’s I don’t do any movements that are uncomfortable or cause me pain.

Probably Matt C , Chaos or Pellius.

J. Falcone is up there, he had a mean punch.

 ;D ;D ;D

For the 175-lb class, I am a legit contender.  Dain Wallis is going to beat me basically no matter what I do...but it wouldn't shock me if I placed #2 in Canada for the 175-lb class this year.  If Ronnie Coleman saw me, he would say "What's with that bitty guy lifting that much?"  ;D

I am lucky in that I can maintain decent strength without apparently having any muscle.  This lift is a decent one for me - even though my max normal deadlift is 485-lb, I think I am structured well for the side-handle deadlift, which is the one we primarily do in strongman:

^ WTF - is Goodrum using sock puppet accounts to dislike my videos?  >:( :P

This was pretty good too - I was bench pressing 315x8 at this time.  My weight was the same as my current weight: ~190-lb.  Decent lift for 190, and the Thunder Bay record is 225x30, and that's held by 2x Ontario's Strongest Man champion Luke Skaarup!  So I am happy with this lift:

^ I think I can do 27 now, but don't usually rep out with 225-lb, as it is not conducive for strongman.

It doesn't translate perfectly to high weight.

I would LOVE to hit a "gym bench" of 370 @175-lb this year.  I will be hyper-competitive in the CAASA 175-lb class if I can do that.

BUT...major qualifier - even though I take your post as a compliment, Kwon - I am strong for my size, and as I understand it, my lifts are pretty average for a Getbigger.  ;D :-X

In all seriousness though - I do consider myself a competent - even dominant - lightweight strongman, but strongman is a big man's sport.

I joke with women that I'm Thunder Bay's Strongest Manlet.  One replied "What's that?"  And I had to show her this:

I never attempted any max singles... probably why I'm still able to train.

At my peak (28-32 years old and 175lbs) I could squat 455 x 8 and dead 495 x 5.  I was never a strong bencher, 315 x 6.

I could rep squat some very decent poundage's for my bodyweight:  225x55, 315x30, 405x15.  I saw my life pass before my eyes a few times doing stuff like that.

Matt nice press for reps, do you use the seat on incline press or do find you hit more upper chest when your hips are elevated to shoulder level?
sorry bro i'm an idiot. When I first watched the video I thought that was an incline bench.  Good press.

Also does that trap bar weigh 80 pounds? Where do you get the 530 as opposed to 495?

Great lift at 160 though.

You are very strong, no doubt.

But the form on that trap deadlift appears to be one that could cause you to rip something.

You might be able to do even more if you utilized some better form or technique.

Straps are teh gay though.

I agree and give props on his strength, but that part about the deadlift was the first thing that came to my mind the second he pulled :o....which was more like a jerk(i mean the movement, not you Matt....or do I ???)  j/k

I read through this thread a bit, and noticed what you (Matt) said about being blessed with being strong while not putting on muscle.  While there are certain people that have that trait like those little Olympic lifters, and you might be one as well......,but after seeing your 225 x 25 bench video, my opinion is that you do not gain muscle because you're lifting for reps.  You move weights. Period.

The style in which you perform those reps on the bench press includes very minimal mind-muscle connection, and zero peak contraction.  Your goals are for strength, and you're doing great, so I'm not insulting you in anyway as I don't think I could've ever even speed-lifted 225 for that many reps in my day....I'm just pointing out why you're not bigger despite your ability to move heavy weights.

Just be careful man!  You've seen enough posts from those of us 35 and up talking about injuries, tears, surgeries, etc. that you should be aware of the fact that this type of heavy training, and that kind of form WILL bite you in the ass at some point.

Hope I don't jinx you.  Good luck with your strongman comps!

From the floor or was it with straps with the bar raised in a power cage?  If that is from the floor that is some sick strength.  Five sets of five reps with 500lbs is incredible. What's your single?  650lbs?
