In all seriousness, I kind of agree with you.  There are people having one of those days in one of those lives, and they're right on the edge.  I'd say it's ok to interact, just don't bark at people or dare them to answer 'what are you gonna do about it?'  Because sometimes they have an answer!

Ya there's snap-crazy people around but I'd wager each of those situations above came with several chances to be diffused.

The guy was smoking OUTSIDE the store. He was following the law. If your kids catch a whiff of cigarette smoke, they’re not gonna drop dead of lung cancer. If you ask a guy who feels he’s already being inconvenienced by anti-smoking laws to stop smoking or move when he’s already complying with a law that annoys him (especially in zero degree weather) you’re not really asking for compliance. You’re asking for TROUBLE.

Punch him on his forehead and then kick him at the curb.

Whenever I say something to someone which is everyday,I’m usually alone but I’m always aware of what they do and how they respond and I watch them when they leave. So staying aware is big.But prob best to say nothing but I can’t do it.

This is true.  The fact of the matter is that this Father didn't realise he would one day come across somebody who spent many years in a place where they learned to identify the b1tch in other men, so they could proceed to take them down to the ground and kick their teeth in.

Somebody should have warned him that this sort of man absolutely will not tolerate disrespect - not on the internet, not in person, (especially) not in a grocery store parking lot, not in Walmart, not in a restaurant, not at the beach, not at the dry cleaners... anywhere.

See, ppl talk about the 'pussyfication' of America, yet they run their mouths thinking they won't get slapped and get their arm broken - or get run over - in front of/with their family/friends.

The guy who's willing to go the furthest, wins. If you're not willing to go all the way (or jump out of the way of the vehicle as it comes towards you), it's best you keep your mouth shut and move on, and make it to the next day.

That was pretty damn clever.  For a second I thought you just read the thread title, and spouted off.....then I noticed nothing in the title mentioned cars/driving ;D

I just try to seem like I'm looking aimlessly at something else unless interaction is unavoidable and direct eye contact is made.  I always open doors for guys and girls no matter race, age, ability and smile and ask "how ya doing?" as I keep walking usually.  The one time I tried to go out of my way recently got me a partial lecture from a newbie therapy dog owner in the grocery store.  Sometimes we all need a little re-training.....that was mine. :o

Seems to be a lot of "Falling Down" moments these days :-[

Solid advice with a great qualifier.
