I've never understood people that brag about getting a large tax refund.
Are they fucking stupid or just like giving the government an interest free loan?

Poor people don't bother to know, that's why they are poor.  Years ago I worked with people that would immediately take their W2's and run to H&R Block during lunch break and pay $200 to get there $1,000 return right away.  They could have gone online and filled out their one page form on a site like  freetaxusa.com  and got the full $1000 return in a week or two direct deposited in their account.

che what state do you live in? By doubling the standard deduction I did 10 peoples tax returns for them and they all got back a lot more than last year. This is in Louisiana.

Apparently, there's a different tax code and a different stock market for liberals.

Liberals, on this board at least, complain about paying more taxes after tax cuts while others are paying less taxes, and complain about losing money in a booming stock market while others are seeing their retirement accounts grow.

The 1040 has been greatly simplified.

My own tax liability was reasonable.

People who had too much tax withheld get a refund.

People who had too little withheld have to pay.

Same goes for those who pay estimated tax.

Bingo! Thanks for this information. I can be such an idiot (although rarely). You are so right. Less federal tax was deducted from my monthly income in 2018 than in 2017. It follows that my refund would reflect this. I had around $60. more spendable income each month this past year then I did the year before. However, I liked getting a bigger refund, because it was in one lump sum and I treat my refund like "mad money". Sixty dollars is so nickel - dime that I didn't even notice my retirement deposits were higher than just the 3% cost of living increase I get each year.

When all is said and done, this was not a income tax reduction though, because the combined tax amount didn't change noticeably. All that was different was the method of paying the tax. It's a case of pay now or pay later.

Of course, but it did happen.  He was acting like it's not.  Usually Presidents get too much credit for the economy.  They need to just stay the fuck out of it's way.  Anytime you can makes businesses more competitive, give 80% of people more money back in their pocket, and encourages companies to repatriate their overseas money and invest it here, it's a good thing.

Keep in mind that unemployment has been dropping for 8+ years so you'll need to actually provide data on the marginal gain associated with the tax cut

Same goes for the claims about wage growth and tax revenue
