GLASSBORO, N.J. (AP) — Professional wrestler King Kong Bundy has died at age 61.

Promoter and longtime friend David Herro says Bundy died on Monday. Herro posted on Facebook: "Today we lost a Legend and a man I consider family." The cause of death and other details were not disclosed.

Bundy, whose real name was Christopher Pallies, was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 6-foot-4 (1.93 meters), 458-pound (208-kilogram) wrestler made his World Wrestling Federation debut in 1981.

He was best known for facing Hulk Hogan in 1986 in a steel cage match at WrestleMania 2, which Hogan won.

Bundy had guest appearances on the sitcom "Married...with Children."

He was planning to appear next month at WrestleCon in New York City.

Aside from being overweight, Bundy also had diabetes.

That didn't do him any "favors."

Still, I didn't realize how young he was!!

Bundy once appeared for the indy promotion I worked for years ago. Since I was already "retired from the business," I only went to support a friend who was working that night and didn't spend any time backstage until a few short minutes after the show. But, I wish I'd gotten to meet KKB.

This was around 2005. He still looked like he did years ago and wore the same ring gear, but looked to have dropped at least a hundred pounds from when I last saw him on Federation television.

I don't remember if he worked heel or face that night, but he posed for pictures in the ring with kids during intermission. I recall several people backstage remarking on how nice he is.

He was a larger then life character for me as a little boy. That whole angle with he and Stud cutting Andres hair was great. Thats when Bobby had a perm. I used to go to many of the WWF events at Nassau Colosseum. The Marriott was right next door to the stadium and many of the wrestlers would be in the bar after the event. I saw Patera, Bundy, Andre, and Stud all in there together when I was like seven years old. Great memories. Bundy was a great character that was well booked up until Mania III. Remember the fastest pin of all time against SD Jones.

Negative. It wasn't 9 seconds. More like 15-20 seconds.
