If only one pair and not a set, get 35 pounds. Even 20-50 rep sets, taken to exhaustion, cause hypertrophy.

Save your money, buy a $25 pull up bar. Do 500 chin ups/ pull ups a day, 500 push ups, 500 crunches. No need for the dumbbells.

Better yet, find a tree and use a limb for the pull ups, and do some up-hill sprints as well.

Dumbbells? 60's or 65's. If it were Kettlebells, a little lower 53's or 55's depending on country.

  • if you got more than 10k you're gay
i got a pull up bar.

i dont really need any dumbbells and i dont want too much stuff laying around, but i just thought it would be fun to have a pair for some bicep/triceps and maybe farmers walk or something  :D

some good suggestions in this thread (and i must admit for an adjustable set the ironmaster do look pretty good after looking them up i thought they would be another one of those sci-fi looking ones)

i spent all my money on bitcoins, so now im down to my last dollars... im sure things will pick up soon, but anyway, if you, like me, only had money for one pair of dumbbells what weight would you pick?
All metal dumbbells are similar so buy the cheapest ones and you can buy more of them.

I have 25's and 35's and that is plenty.  Used to have an Olympic set, squat rack, industrial bench and 800lbs which is total overkill for most.

Agreed that pullups, pushups and crunches can build a great body but you don't even need to do that many reps.

  • Dumb people think Trump is smart.
Not really.

One pair would be the Ironmaster adjustable set that goes 10-120 per dumbbell.

Also, OP is fag.

This.  There are some good brands out there now.  Used to be they were big and klunky as hell.  But not anymore.

You can build great arms and shoulders with bodyweight exercises.  Ever see male Olympic gymnasts???

Most bodybuilders who maintain solid physiques into their later years are pumpers. They take a manageable weight, do higher reps and go for solid muscle contractions as opposed to the low rep model in which you eventually fuck up your back and knees due to rounding and buckling.

Yes, I used to love lifting heavy (even powerlifting) workouts but past age 40 no way.  Too bad Ronnie didn't have the same philosophy.

so youre saying lifting dumbbells that weigh more than 50 pounds is out of the question once youve passed 40?

it looks to me that the pussiciation of people isnt a recent concept... it started a long time ago

For me, yes.  Do whatever you want.
