I know you guys don’t like him (im not a fan of his posing or lack of) But you have to admit he looks pretty damm good in the video!...
I agree with you here, Mike! No doubt about it - King looked amazing in his prime, which was probably either that year [2001], or when he turned pro in 1999. King placed 10th in 2001, which means that King can say, for a period of time, he was one of the ten best bodybuilders in the world. Off-topic slightly, but I don't know how Gunter Schlierkamp only came 15th in 2001. But hey - that was up to the judges.
King's back double biceps was amazing. One of the best in the business during his prime [in terms of detail and separation/aesthetics, and it's not exactly like he was lacking in size there!].
His arms were a weak point, but were huge in person.
Also, despite the Bad Boy image he presented in media, King was a nice guy. He gave me free copies of both his DVD's at the 2007 Arnold Classic for review, but I already owned the first one.
While Craig Titus was clearly a murderous scumbag, beyond all the hype with King, he was a nice guy. From one dad to the next, I can tell you that he loved his kids very much.
King always had a problem with anonymous posters attacking him online. It always bothered him. I remember him saying he only called out Shawn Ray to get his name circulated in the bodybuilding press. I do think he was annoyed with out-sizing Shawn and being beaten by him - but no one can deny Shawn's shape and aesthetics.
One thing about King is that once his physique regressed, he never seemed to really get it back.
He did look good in 2008 in Atlantic City, but that was an outlier in what was otherwise a consistent downward trend for him.
It's funny how that happens to some pros and not others. For whatever reason, King was never able to reproduce the physique of his glory days.
But one thing is for sure - no one can say King looked bad in his prime.
