For mainstream appeal, the opening riff from Pantera’s Cowboys From Hell is tough to beat.

I prefer Meshuggah 8 string sound. Hard to pick a favorite, but to the uninitiated Bleed or Do Not Look Down are a good start.

Willie Adler & Mark Morton of Lamb of God have some great stuff too....Mark’s acoustic intro to Ghost Walking that quickly turns hard edged comes to mind.

Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom consistently comes up with killer riffs....In Your Face is an extreme metal song that can still make even metal haters’ heads bob up and down.

Vai’s Fire Garden is chock full of incredible guitar riffs. I’m a drummer of 35+ years but have always sought out great guitar riffs and sounds....so many great musicians out there.

Pantera's 5 Minutes Alone, Strength Beyond Strength, especially the jam around :50... what a groove!!!!!!!!!!!

Metallica's No Remorse... That's what got me playing guitar 30 years ago...

I could go on and on, but those are my stand outs off the top of my head.

Many good ones - I would say that Judas Priest have a volume of good to great sounding riffs that is hard to beat. From simple to complex, Judas Priest has done it all.
AC/DC is also a great choice.

I remember listening to a Black Sabbath CD back when I was in school and an avid "guitar player" and after having gone through the whole disc I was shocked how many good / unique riffs and arrangments they had.
It was pretty depressing because it felt like "everything good under the sun had already been done" - which even rhymes...

Playing in a Sab tribute band and we just added Supernaut to our latest set list.

My current fav riff is Into the Void though.
