Back in the day, young people would to do apprenticeships and would be around adults. Now, they’re tucked away in college among other kids. When they come out they’re not very mature. It takes a few years in the workplace and experience in real life for them to grow up. If anything voting age should be raised not lowered.

This correlates to my belief that the voting age should be raised to 25, or you can provide proof that you've been on your own (roommates is acceptable) for 2 years working full time.  If you haven't been on your own you know nothing about the real world, or what our nation needs in a leader.  Obviously, military would be excluded from this due to them having an actual real world view.

Most 16 year olds have curfews still, and vote for homecoming and prom king and queens based on nothing but popularity and looks while ignoring substance completely. Do we really want a bunch of 16 yr old Primes voting for POTUS?

Ironically, this could backfire in the long run. When this current dated college model becomes obsolete and kids go back to being around adults at a younger age things could move in the other direction.

When you consider what a person with an iPhone can learn anytime anyplace, it seems ridiculous that people are still taking a road trip to sit in a room with 30 other people and listen to some teacher go on for two hours.

You do know that most of the top academic universities are PRIVATE right? ( Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc).
They get a lot of their research grant money from various corporations .
For example, a private corp provided a physics research grant that helped fund me my group in grad school.

Having said that, many of the "Internet Degree colleges" are a $$ sucking scam that rarely lead to a decent career .

 :DBUT, you're right that academia is SLOW to change, much like religious institutions LOL.
That reluctance to change is more about institutional culture then any GOV regs.
Their is a lot of tedious useless procedure  when trying to publish and produce academic work.
 I have plenty of my own experiences with that , so I can't or won't defend the lack of efficiency in academia.

They’re private in name only. They all get some sort of government funding. Moreover, they’re propped up by Government backed loans which have driven up tuitions to absurd levels. Poor liberal arts major suckers come out of college with massive debt and no marketable skills. That why so many live at home. Online education hasn’t taken off as it should because they’re crowded out.

This will eventually change. The reality is that distance learning and online learning have rendered most of the educational infrastructure obsolete. We need all these schools the same way we still need newsstands on every corner.

Yes, when I was in college we had to go to the library for any research and when we typed papers on computers we had to tear off the edges.

Now research is so much easier and faster but it still takes 4 years for a bachelor degree.  It should be 1/2 that.

With first rate online learning programs, costs would plummet, kids would be to able to take part time or even full time  jobs and get their degrees without accumulating ridiculous amounts of debt.

Only excessive government involvement has stopped the education industry from massive disruption.

They've got it set up to where you almost have to get the credentials to get a decent job even if you are going to school for years to learn mostly bullshit you will never use.  Imagine telling an interviewer that you are self taught, you'd be laughed out of the building at most places even though someone motivated to learn on their own could very well be more qualified that someone who sat through 4 years of lectures.
