From Feb 2008 to end of Jan 2017 the market rose on a steady upward trend of 244% ( 8000 to 19,450) ( Obama era)

Of course the 244% increase is from the lowest point after the market tanked.

It would be less if you were invested at the previous peak in 2007.

Very simple question.  If the economy was so great under Obama, then why did the Fed keep rates effectively at zero during his time in office?

Great question:
Simple answer - To prime the economic pump via Kynseism economic theory.
It worked well coming off the home mortgage credit default debacle.

Trump needed to switch models when he came in and did.
I think he went too far with removing environmental regulations and corp tax breaks.
BUT, he's  gotten some results in the process.

Question for you : Why can't BOTH sides just admit both men have done well with our economy.
The numbers show that overall. Saying Obama or Trump was/is Herbert Hoover is crazy.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Ok, I assumed that the Obama team tried to emulate the Kane based model of economic growth after a recession?
Why am I wrong? Just curious?

The economy under Obama would have grown much faster if nothing were done. Economy's do not grow by regulating the shit out literally almost all industries, driving corporations and jobs out of the country, misappropriating funds, printing money to create a false economy, Obamacare, Obamacare mandates, killing job-creating projects and taxing the shit out of everything and everyone.

Not to mention Obama inherited a financial crisis created by non other than Bill Clinton himself.  Recovery after hitting rock bottom was inevitable, and had nothing to do with Obama.

25 People to Blame for the Financial Crisis

President Clinton's tenure was characterized by economic prosperity and financial deregulation, which in many ways set the stage for the excesses of recent years. Among his biggest strokes of free-wheeling capitalism was the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, a cornerstone of Depression-era regulation. He also signed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which exempted credit-default swaps from regulation. In 1995 Clinton loosened housing rules by rewriting the Community Reinvestment Act, which put added pressure on banks to lend in low-income neighborhoods.

I don't believe the economy magically adjusted in the years following the epic crash of 1929 under Hoover.

We had a pretty time for awhile, it was called the Great Depression.
Under FDR's leadership things gradually got better . WWII got us into debt, but it caused the economy to do a 180.

Returns always look good when you measure from the bottom of a bear market to the (near) top of a bull market.

Go back 20 years to 1999 and measure.  You will find returns have been quite average over the 20 year period.

It wasn't magic, it was flat out economic common sense that Krugman couldn't even grasp but the average person with a Laymen's understanding of basic business and economics could. When you have someone with an understanding of business + deep knowledge of economics that went against the Washington status quo, good things happen.

remind us again what party Gramm, Leach and Bliley belonged to

Also, CRA lending did not cause the credit market crisis but Republicans love to try to tie it in whenever than get a chance
