People are using leasing to buy cars more expensive than they could otherwise afford.

yes, it is so easy to get into an expensive auto lease or auto loan. leasing a BMW M4 is not that hard. 15 years ago... financing a BMW M3 was much tougher.

ive posted my job career before - mortgage broker - many times.....  expensive auto loans decline or make deals do not work where clients cannot buy a home.

ive seen regular americans with $850 to $1000 car payments.  good by savings.

car payments will kill wealth -

modern cars are good for 200k miles

-get regular service (typically every 5k miles) oil, tires etc. get a service tech -
-get your car waxed/details 2-4 times year (this does not washing it)
take pride in your property - why trash something you own? i never understand why ppl treat their auto like a piece of shit? you make a payment on that thing you are abuse?  ???

sorry if my post are messy, i do this from an ipad with voice text.

a high auto loan payment can be the main reason why a mortgage would be declined. avoid high car payments

unless you are a car guy and its your hobby - then its case by case.

getting into a $50k + truck.... you should be very wealthy in our current economy. inflation/cost of living is through the roof,. $3 gas, tax laws are always switching. its much more then the dollar amount - things run deeper with the economy. the wrong large economic move and you could be up shit creek.

unnecessary leverage is too risky

Housing and car pricing is totally dependent on financing. When they started doing 8 year financing on cars the prices went up.

Regular vehicles like a Wrangler or F-150 are 60k, it's totally out of hand.

If you drive only what you can pay cash for it changes your life. Next to that buy the 36k car used for 20k a few years later.

Car options kill you.

I always buy base models with standard options.  Even base models today have lots of nice options.

Moving up the option ladder can easily add $7-$10k onto the price.

You can't get around getting fracked even going as cheaply as possible.

Pickup truck prices are insane.

ya man - the e46 M3 was an amazing bang for its buck. a new m4 is like $80k to $90k? WTF! Plus they arent as fun as the e36 m3 or e46 m3. the older M3 were drivers car and rode hard.

i had an e46 m3 convertible. i swapped out for after market CSL style wheels. those were in back in the day. everyone wanted Dinan or CSL parts. i never modded mine.. just rims.

but the m3 was an affordable bad ass machine - an all around modern marvel of a car.  coupe, SMG, 6 speed, convertible, CSL, tracked car, Super charger options, turbo options. the M3 was pre Bangle design era too.

I sold cars at a Honda Dealership and an Infiniti dealership way back in the early 2000s and cars were more in line with income.

today? the cost of living/auto's are outrageous based on personal income. as a consumer you need to make prudent decisions and don't like marketing or the neighbors influence you.  like others have said, before careful on options

leasing will become very common as time goes on... its simply cheaper on a monthly basis for consumers then standard financing.

pics of my M3 - loved this car :) bought it semi pre -owned. i used to burn oil and clutches all the time - 6 speed manual.  douchey plates of course :)

the 2001-2006 bmw line up peaked (BMW M5, 740i sport, 3 series) just clean lines, solid options, drove well.

Between this level of high you're reaching, and the daily rage you discussed in the Strawman thread, I'm led to the conclusion that if you back off the MJ a bit you might find the perfect balance.  There's no arguing you should use daily though!  LOL!

What happens when the $36,500 average vehicle price meets up with the Millennial who just uses Uber and doesn't want to own a car?   :-X

Auto CEO's may be happy now, but they're ringing their hands about the future.
