Yes, the heart stops, you're considered dead.  The brain has enough oxygen to survive a short period after this event.  How much time varies from person to person.

I had a greyout from taking medication. I couldn't hear or see anything and my bp dropped to around 40 something when the nurses caught me from fainting and got me in a sitting position. I will never take hydrocodone again.

I remember reading about how during the French Revolution there was a doctor who stood by the guillotine and asked the people about to die to try and blink as many times as they could after their heads fell off and I thought the average was 12 times.

I also just read on bbc about how scientist hooked blood vessels back up to pigs brains that were from a slaughterhouse and got brain activity. Zombie apocalypse here we come!

You are alive until you are dead therefore you don’t know you are dead cause if your brain is still functioning you are not dead.
