Do any of y’all compost?
« on: May 03, 2019, 05:49:57 AM »
I started thinking of doing a small compost pile. I used to pour coffee grinds over my hydrangeas to get them to make brighter flowers and it got me thinking of maybe doing some sort of composting. I know of banana peels, egg shells, and coffee grinds, but is there any other items to use? Thanks in advance.

Yes I have a big yard and every year I have a garden in the back, tomatoes - cucumbers - peppers - behind my work shed I keep a certain amount of leaves from the fall they break down along with the things you mentioned you can also use potato peels orangd peels I mix it in with the leaves makes great soil ..

Dead/dry leaves, when gathered and shredded down with a lawnmower into smaller pieces can also serve as a good compost agent. As they get absorbed, they provide food for worms, keep good moisture in your soil and are an excellent source of carbon. To off balance the carbon content of your dead/dry leaves, you can also use grass clippings (properly shredded down) as an additive to your compost, as when it breaks down it gives off Nitrogen, as well as potassium and phosphorus.

Nope! A big pile of stinky crap doesn't increase your property value  :o
I shit in the toilet and throw out my trash.
My wife and I recycle plastic (bottles mostly) at the nearby recycling center.
You are a pile of stinky crap... so says all your ex wives and im sure soon to be the current unlucky wife

I've done it before. You can put almost anything on it. Grass clippings are great. Don't use your garbage disposal, dump all that junk on the pile.
Nuthin like walking into your backyard and picking fresh, organic tomatoes, zuchini, eggplant and squash and whipping up an omelette. I had chickens too. Fresh eggs available anytime.

I made a 3 foot high one with chicken wire last year.

Leaves, food scraps (no animal matter), etc.

You can put cardboard in it too but not too much.

Keep it moist and turn it over once a week.

Yeah, shit is great, and make sure you throw the toilet paper on the pile.
