"I’m the Longest-Serving Republican in the Iowa Legislature, and I’m Switching Parties"
I found myself more and more uncomfortable with the stance of my party on the majority of high-profile issues...I believe that it is just a matter of time before our country pays a heavy price for President Donald Trump’s reckless spending and shortsighted financial policies; his erratic, destabilizing foreign policy; and his disdain and disregard for environmental concerns.

Furthermore, he sets a poor example for the nation and our children. He delivers personal insults, often in a crude and juvenile fashion, to those who disagree with him, and is a bully at a time when we’re attempting to discourage bullying, on- and offline.

In addition, he frequently disregards the truth and displays a willingness to ridicule or marginalize people for their appearance, ethnicity, and disability.

I believe that his actions have coarsened political discourse, contributing to unprecedented polarization and creating a breeding ground for hateful rhetoric and actions.

“I was first elected to the Iowa legislature in 1978, when I was still in my late 20s. I served for seven terms in the House and another three terms in the Senate. ”

A hack career politician doesn’t like Trump. What a surprise.

As expected--as soon as somebody speaks out against Trump his supporters bash him too.
Typical.
Think for yourself for a change.

He should be a Democrat. Biden and Bernie have been sucking the taxpayer teet since the the 1970s as well.

Show me one Democratic that's been caught in a tenth of the lies as the Republican idiot running the show now.

Do you know what they consider a lie?

If Trump says '1 in 3 illegal immigrants have been deported in the last 6 months' but the figure is actually 31%, that's considered a lie.

Wake up.

Neither party should have much appeal since both just end up doing the bidding of their wealthy donor class.
There are some politicians in both parties that I like though since they seem quite principled (Rand Paul, Tulsi Gabbard, Thomas Massie, Ro Khanna...etc).

As for Guillory, he was a Republican most his life and only became a Democrat briefly to better his chances of winning a specific district that was heavily Democratic.
His move back to being a Republican was hardly an epiphany and more likely another political move that I’m sure has been profitable for him.

Stop voting with your feelings and do it with one hand on your wallet. Anything else is a waste of time.

The Democrats seem to have been taken over by a mostly extremist left-wing faction or they are least gaining more traction within the party.

You are the one posting a daily lie count. What they consider a lie many times is possibly him simplifying his speech.

The economy is the proof he is a far better option than anything else.

They’ve become the party of University liberal arts departments. When I hear AOC speak, it’s like I’m listening to a Jukebox of Leftist talking points.

So he should say 31% instead of 1 in 3 to please you?

https://www.ammoland.com/2019/05/why-i-chose-to-walkaway-from-the-democratic-party/#ixzz5o07yUXUS

My “aha” moment came during the 2016 General Election Primary. I began following the Primary debates religiously on all networks. As time passed, I found myself drawn to the Republican Party. That Party made more sense to me. Much more sense. Not once did I see Republicans engage in the outrageous and appalling behavior of Democrats and those associated with them, on the far “Left.” Violent protests, vandalism, and threats to our courageous men and women in “Blue,” were becoming the norm. And Democrats were attempting to justify this behavior. I could not accept that. It wasn’t long before I turned to my husband and said, “I think I’ve been a Republican my whole life but just didn’t realize it!”
