I work at Auto Zone and Rory’s works at CVS as a manager.

Combined income is about 90K. Not too shabby.

I mean why live in San Francisco?  Live 50-75 miles outside of the city and visit on the weekends.  You get the great weather for a much cheaper price.

All of those benefits you get from my post of living 50-75 miles from the city and just visiting.  The people who really benefit from living in San Francisco are homeless bums and junkies who can get clean needles for free.  No thanks.

They should have went into the trades and made a 100K plus a year.  Two plumbers in my gym. Both retired early and have amazing houses.

General contractor here. Retired at 55. Wife was an accountant (a useful degree) retired at 55

I'm frugal, I save about 35-40% of my paycheck. I'm also in the 90th percentile of income, but given the fact that I live in a developing country, that just puts me in the middle class.

I think I could "semi retire" at 45 if I wanted. By "semi retire" I mean working 20 hours a week.

If I wanted to fully retire right now, I would need $720,000. I would put that in a fixed deposit at 5% and I would take half the returns to live off. That way, I would fight off inflation. Yes, $1500 a month is enough to have a more than decent lifestyle in a low income country, but if you want to be upper class, double those numbers.

I will probably never fully retire. I enjoy working, and not doing something productive would destroy my ego.

Update: survey addendum showed that 10/10 ( 100%) of getbiggers didn't have a $500 emergency fund and owed their mom
for 3 years "back rent" on their basement apt.

I almost wish they truly didn't.. I employ a hand full of them.. 1 out of the 4 is a good hard worker( the poor kid who can only afford a cell phone when he get his bonus)… the others,  are just straight up fuckin stupid.. thats the only explanation and that's exactly what it is.. I blame the school system.. ive got an 85 year old woman who works one night a week and I wish I had 5 more of her to replace these kids.

SF1900 is Rory a store manager or an ASM? As a CVS store manager, unless its a very low volume store in a rural area,  he should be pulling in close to 90k by himself.

I speak with a little experience when it comes to divorce LOL.

On a serious note, knowing what you do now, would you have had a kid with her?

I read someone mention avocado toast. I had a feeling that would come up. How expensive are these avocados people are buying? I buy five of them for three bucks at Aldi and eat avocado toast at breakfast near daily.

Sorry, Dave, he is an assistant manager.

I get my avocado toast from a local cafe and it's about $8.75 with tax.

1 out of 4 your doing well, I only employ over 50s in my admin team now and only women, the boys on the factory floor call me the granny banger as I don't employ any young hotties, too much drama and no productivity and they want to be paid well over their worth, will take an older well more experienced if were being politically correct over the young ones anyday of the week, they know the value of having a job, the iPhone generation are hopeless. Creates a few issues as they get older and their skill sets start to fail, but I just communicate with them respectfully and we navigate it.

I love these finance-related threads. Every other person starts firing off their own personal situation.

I’ve never had it outside my home. What a ripoff! That’s why I rarely eat out.

I always had money in the bank. Most people just blow it. I wouldn't say it's just this generation. I value working for it too much to just blow it.
